The University of Massachusetts Amherst is a public research university in Amherst, Massachusetts. The university was chartered in 1863 as a land-grant institution and is the flagship campus of the University of Massachusetts system. It became coeducational in 1891 and did not admit women until 1948. Herter Hall is the oldest building on campus, built in 1875 and named after George Herter, a former student and member of the class of 1873.
Herter Hall was recently renovated to include new bathrooms and electrical systems.
