Admission into the University of Melbourne is a complex process, and we understand that it can be challenging to navigate. Our Admissions Team are here to help you through it. Follow the steps below to make sure your admissions application is complete and ready for assessment.
Applicants who have completed Year 12 or an equivalent secondary school qualification outside Australia should apply directly through the University by submitting a direct application.
The University of Melbourne considers Year 12 or an equivalent secondary school qualification to be:
- A completed Certificate, Diploma or Advanced Diploma (at least 2 years of full-time study) from a recognised Australian secondary school
- An International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma with a minimum score of 38 points, including the Theory of Knowledge course; or 15 points in three Higher Level subjects.
- An International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) – five subjects passed at Grade C or better in one sitting at 16 years old, including English and Mathematics; or six subjects passed at Grade C or better over two sittings that include English and Mathematics.

- VCE Study Abroad (VSA) – A pathway for those undertaking the Victorian Certificate of Education who wish to undertake one year of their VCE at an overseas institution, then return to complete their remaining two years at Monash University Malaysia Campus by way of direct enrolment in Year 12.*

- The Chancellor’s International Scholarship is awarded each year to up to five outstanding international students who have been in Australia for less than 12 months and have achieved a strong academic result in their previous study.
- The Dux Scholar Award is awarded annually to the top student from each International College. This award includes a $5,000 scholarship for your first year of undergraduate study at Melbourne University as well as entry into our competitive intercollegiate program providing access to leadership development opportunities within and beyond the University community.
- The Dean’s International Scholarship is awarded annually on the basis of academic performance throughout high school (or equivalent) combined with financial need. This scholarship covers tuition fees only and does not include Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC).
