O-Level Requirements for KNUST Undergraduate Admission
If you want to apply for undergraduate admission to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), you must have completed the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) or its equivalent with credit passes (A1 – C6) or better in at least five (5) subjects including English Language and Mathematics.
A-Level Requirements For KNUST Undergraduate Admission
If you want to gain admission into KNUST, you must obtain two principal passes from a recognized examination board in the subject relevant to your programme of choice. If you are applying for the Civil Engineering programme, for instance, you should have obtained two principal passes in Mathematics and Physics.
Note that these two principal passes must be obtained in one sitting. It is also important to note that no credit pass is required for admission into the university. Finally, note that candidates who do not meet the requirements stated here may still gain admission if they possess any of these:
- Applicants with mature status can apply if they are 25 years and above at the time of application and have three years working experience.
- Applicants with diploma or HND certificates can apply if they have obtained a minimum of second class lower division or better from an accredited institution.
Degree Requirements for KNUST Graduate (Postgraduate) Admission
In order to be accepted for a postgraduate degree at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, you must meet all of the following requirements:
- A good first degree from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology or from any other recognized university. The general requirement is that candidates should have obtained a minimum of second class lower division in their first degrees. The exception is that first class and second upper division holders are eligible to apply for Postgraduate Diploma Programmes. This is a policy set by the Academic Board.
- For admission into Master’s Degree Programmes (by coursework), an applicant should normally hold an honours degree in relevant discipline with not less than Second Class Lower Division. Applicants holding an ordinary bachelor’s degree may be considered but would be required to take bridging courses prescribed by the School in addition to their programme courses. Admission into Master’s Degree Programme via direct entry would require applicants to possess two years relevant working experience after obtaining their recognised undergraduate degrees.
As shown above, the admission requirements for KNUST are based on the level of education; basic, senior high and degree.
As shown above, the admission requirements for KNUST are based on the level of education; basic, senior high and degree.
For basic education applicants, you need to have an SSNEC result slip with a minimum aggregate score of 20 (that is D+D+E) or SSSCE with a minimum aggregate score of 24 (D+E). You also need to pass a test/interview by paying GHS30 (fees may vary from year to year)
For senior high applicants, you will require your WASSCE results slip with an aggregate score of 36. Applicants who have not taken any specialized courses are required to do so in order to be admitted into any course at KNUST.
For degree applicants, you will need your WASSCE results slip if applying through the general admissions process. Your total points must be higher than what was presented in that year’s cut-off point list as published on the university’s website. For example, if you scored A1(6 pts), B2(5 pts), B3(4pts), C4(3 pts) and C5(3pts) then your total points would be 21 which is lower than the cut-off point for chemistry which was 23 that year.
