Our Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree program in History is designed to equip students with the skills they need to pursue careers in public history or as historians in such fields as law, business, museum work, education and publishing. The program also serves those who want to continue their studies at the graduate level or enter law school or medical school after graduation.

Students are required to complete an introductory course called Historical Thinking Skills which introduces them to basic historical methods and approaches through both lectures and practical exercises. In this course we examine the nature of historical inquiry; consider what it means for something to be historical (how does one know if a given event was really historically significant); discuss various ways historians organize their research; learn about museums as places where artifacts tell stories from the past; examine primary sources such as letters & diaries; learn how maps can help us understand where things happened on earth’s surface; study cities where people live today by looking at historic maps showing landscapes over time periods when things may have been built there originally e.g., buildings like churches were often erected long before cities had developed around them).
