Apply through ApplyTexas or Coalition Application.

In this section, we’ll review the process you can take to apply as an international student at UT Austin.

The first step is to determine what type of applicant you are. We have specific admission requirements for Freshman students and International students based on their educational history and location.

Next, you will need to decide which application format you will use: ApplyTexas or Coalition Application.

ApplyTexas is the state’s common application platform and is used by all Texas public universities, including UT Austin.

The Coalition Application is a common application platform for more than 140 public and private institutions in the United States.

Pay the application fee. At UT Austin, we require all students to apply using one of two standard application platforms. Learn more about the application platforms we accept and how to pay your $75 application fee.

You may be exempt from paying the application fee. Learn more about how to apply for a fee waiver.

In order to pay your application fee, you will need to first create an account through the ApplyTexas or Coalition for College website. The application fee is nonrefundable and is not applied toward tuition if you are admitted and choose to enroll at UT Austin.

Your transcript must be submitted by your school and must contain all grades through the end of your junior year. It should include a grading scale and must be in English or accompanied by a certified English translation. If you are applying for a first-time freshman, it also must include proof of graduation (or expected graduation).

Supply test scores. Applicants from countries other than the U.S., U.K., Canada and Australia should see our international admission requirements page for details about SAT or ACT requirements and recommended English proficiency tests. For more information on SAT Subject Tests, visit College Board or call (866) 756-7346.

  • SAT or ACT scores are required for all applicants.
  • SAT Subject Tests are not required.

More than one-third of our students have earned admission without submitting SAT Subject Test scores, and it is not to your advantage to submit these tests if they do not reflect your academic potential. However, you may wish to submit them if you feel the results enhance your application in other ways (it’s a great way for you to show off excellent performance on an AP exam, for example). If submitted, we will consider them as a part of our holistic review process.

  • SAT Subject Tests can be used for placement purposes. We may use your Subject Test results to place you into appropriate coursework once you’re here at UT Austin.

There are a lot of hoops to jump through when it comes to getting into UT Austin, but they are all necessary to ensure that you will be successful when you get there

One of the most common complaints about UT Austin’s admissions process is that it’s too complicated. There are a lot of hoops to jump through when it comes to getting into UT Austin, but they are all necessary to ensure that you will be successful when you get there.

The hoops have fun names like “college readiness” and “SAT or ACT scores,” but don’t let these names fool you. The hoops are important, and it is crucial for every applicant to be aware of them and prepare accordingly.
