Yonsei University is one of the top universities in South Korea with its main campus located in Seoul. It was established by the Yonsei Alumni Association and has an enrollment of over 30,000 students. Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS)

The Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS) accepts applicants with a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) from any university. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher and TOEFL score of 80 or higher.

Underwood International College (UIC)

Underwood International College (UIC) is a residential college where students from all over the world live together. The majority of the students who apply to UIC are admitted after applying for undergraduate studies at Yonsei University and are required to take the Korean language course before they start their education.

UIC offers various courses including Korean language, Korean history and culture, English, etc., both for first-year and second-year undergraduates.

GSIS admission requirements

You must have the following qualifications to be admitted to Yonsei University:

  • Undergraduate Degree. All applicants, regardless of citizenship, must have an undergraduate degree or its equivalent from a recognized university. If you have completed your undergraduate program but have not yet graduated, you are required to submit proof that you will graduate by the time of enrollment at Yonsei University (e.g., graduation date on transcript or diploma).
  • TOEFL/IELTS/PTE Academic Score. The minimum academic English language proficiency scores for admission are listed below:
  • For non-native speakers of English (whose first language is not English): a score of at least 88 points on the internet-based test (IBT) Paper Based Test (PBT), with no less than 20 points each in Speaking and Writing sections; or a score of at least 60 points with no less than 30 points each in Speaking and Writing sections for computer-based test (CBT).
  • For native speakers of English who did not receive any postsecondary education outside their home country: A minimum overall band score of 6.5 on IELTS Academic Module 3; or a minimum overall band score of 4+ across all skill areas on PTE Academic module 4; or a minimum overall band score 7+ in Reading Section and 6+ in all other sections on TOEFL iBT test

Underwood International College is the first international college of Yonsei University, one of Korea’s top universities. Underwood International College offers undergraduate and graduate programs to students from around the world. The campus is located in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul.

Admission requirements for Underwood International College include a bachelor’s degree with at least 2 years’ work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Students must also have TOEFL scores of at least 600 on paper-based tests or 100 on internet-based tests, or IELTS scores over 6 band points (6.5 for Masters). Applicants who do not meet these standards may still be considered for admission if they submit a personal statement explaining their academic background and motivation for studying abroad at Underwood International College.

  • A minimum of 3.75 GPA in a related field

Admission Requirements For Yonsei University

For international applicants, the application process to Yonsei University is handled by the International Office. Undergraduate and graduate school of international studies (GSIS) admission requirements are largely similar:

  • Applicants must apply for a program by August 31st if they wish to be considered for the Fall semester or December 31st if they wish to be considered for the Spring semester.
  • Applicants must have completed at least one year of undergraduate studies before applying for GSIS. Graduate school of international studies (GSIS) will also require an English proficiency test score as well as previous work experience and/or personal recommendation letters from former colleagues or employers, which can help in assessing your English language proficiency levels.
