I. General Requirements

• You must be a high school graduate or the equivalent.
• You must have completed at least 15 units of college-preparatory work. This requirement may be met by passing the GED or TASC (Test Assessing Secondary Completion) tests, which provide an alternative to courses taken in high school and/or transferable college courses completed at a four-year institution. Students who complete this requirement with AP, IB and/or AICE exams will also satisfy this requirement as well as fulfill many of Stanford’s subject requirements for admission; however, these students are still required to submit official transcripts after matriculation at Stanford University.

II. Required Documents

The following documents are required for admission consideration:

• Application for Admission. You must submit a completed application for admission along with supporting documentation, including high school transcripts, test scores, and the personal statement. A $60 application fee is required (nonrefundable). Applications submitted without all of the required materials will not be processed.
• Official Test Scores. You must submit official SAT or ACT scores taken within the past five years to be considered for admission to Stanford University. Your results should be sent directly from the testing agency; we do not accept copies or faxes of these documents as official test reports.* Transcripts from all colleges attended since graduating high school (including summer programs) and any international schools attended during secondary education with an English curriculum.* Official English Proficiency Test Score if English is not your native language or if you have been out of school longer than five years; proof that you meet one of our requirements outlined below may be substituted in lieu of proof that you took an assessment test offered by ETS

III. Freshman Applicants to Engineering

If you’ve taken AP courses and received a score of 3 or higher, you may be able to earn credit for them by submitting your final transcripts before enrolling at Stanford. If you take the SAT, your combined Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (ERW) plus Math scores will need to be at least 1310 on the new SAT or 33 on the old version; if you take the ACT, your composite score will need to be at least 33. For freshmen who took either exam in their junior year (or earlier), we’ll also consider your most recent set of high school grades—your class rank if available—in addition to these standardized test scores.

IV. Transfer Applicants to Engineering

To apply as a transfer applicant, you must have a minimum of 60 quarter or 90 semester units of transferable credit.

The Office of Undergraduate Admission does not accept applications from students who are currently enrolled in high school or taking courses for high school credit. Instead, students should apply during their final year of high school following graduation or completion of the GED requirements.
