Academic Requirements

Washington State University has academic requirements for admission that include the following:

• A minimum GPA of 2.0.
• A minimum SAT score of 1020.
• A minimum ACT score of 20.
• A minimum high school GPA of 3.0 or higher, depending on the major you are applying to (biology/biotechnology majors require at least a 3.3). If your high school grades are not strong enough to meet this requirement, consider taking college classes while still in high school to boost your GPA before applying as a freshman or transfer student. Language Requirements

• English Proficiency Requirements: You must have a minimum TOEFL score of 80 (IBT) or 81 (PBT). If you do not meet this requirement, you can take WSU’s English Placement Test.
• Other Languages Required: You may be asked to submit a copy of your transcripts and other documentation if you wish to enroll in a language course at WSU.

If you don’t meet the above requirements, how do I meet them?

You can enroll in WSU’s English Placement Test online through Canvas by logging into your MyWSU account and clicking on “Registration & Enrollment Tools” in the left navigation bar. The test costs $15 per test administration, which includes two attempts within one year of purchase. The fee is nonrefundable once purchased; however, if you register for an incorrect test battery (i.e., one that does not match your education level), we will refund your payment upon request after submission of proof of enrollment at Washington State University and completion of all sections from both batteries.*

Standardized Exam Scores

If you are applying to WSU Pullman, you must submit standardized test scores unless the school states otherwise. These include:

• SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) scores
• ACT (American College Testing) scores

For either exam, you need to have taken one of these tests no later than January 2015. It’s recommended that students take the SAT or ACT in their junior year so they can maximize their chances for good scholarship offers and therefore make it possible for them to pay more affordable tuition costs throughout college without taking out student loans. Students may opt not to take these exams if they don’t want to or if there are other reasons why they can’t take them at this time; however, doing so will mean that they won’t get any scholarships offered by WSU Pullman based on these types of scores. If this is your choice as an applicant, then make sure that whatever reason makes sense when writing essays about yourself during your application process!

Supplementary Materials

• A letter of recommendation, from a teacher or someone you’ve worked with.
• A personal statement: Tell us why you want to be part of the Washington State University community. (Please keep your personal statement to one page.)
• Test scores: The SAT, ACT or TOEFL are required for international applicants and strongly recommended for domestic applicants who have not completed two or more years of full-time enrollment at a U.S. high school or accredited American university.
