For the first time ever, U.S. News & World Report has released a list of universities with the most affordable out-of-state tuition and mandatory fees for those who cannot—or choose not to—attend college in their home state.
U.S. News was able to compile this list because of a new federal requirement in which institutions must post net price calculators on their websites that “present personalized cost information based on a student’s circumstances, including family income, assets and family size; it provides an estimate of how much each student will pay to attend the institution in one year.”
Because these calculators are now so easily accessible online, students can get an accurate idea of what attending school at any given college or university will be like financially before they submit applications and spend thousands of dollars applying to dozens of schools across the country.
