The University of California is one of the most prestigious public universities in the world. However, it’s also one of the most competitive. The UC Application, which can be completed online, is required to apply for admission to the University of California. Students who wish to be considered for financial aid should complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).
The University of California application fee is $70 per campus and must be submitted electronically when applying on CalCentral or by mail with a paper application. Applicants may request a fee waiver if they have been determined eligible according to federal guidelines. A student’s eligibility for a fee waiver will not affect their admissions decision, but an applicant whose waiver is denied may still apply without paying an application fee by using the “Application Fee” option on CalCentral.

A California Education

- The University of California, or UC, is the largest higher education system in the world, with 10 campuses and five medical centers located throughout California.
- It’s also one of the most selective universities in America: less than 20% of applicants are admitted each year! In fact, UC Berkeley and UCLA are two of only eight public universities nationwide to consistently make it into America’s top 25 schools according to U.S News & World Report rankings (the others being #1 Princeton University). So if you want to go somewhere where you’ll be challenged academically AND have a good chance at getting accepted…then applying for UC Berkeley or UCLA might just be your best bet!
- Plus did we mention that there’s no tuition? If your family makes under $80k per year then there won’t be any fees associated with attending either campus (though some departments may require fees). And even if they do ask for money up front while applying (which doesn’t happen often), this is still cheaper than many other universities across America–not even including how much cheaper it would cost graduates later on down their career paths! But don’t let cost stop anyone from pursuing what their heart desires; after all: “The only thing standing between success and failure…is whether or not people believe in themselves.”
Student-Athlete Admission
To qualify as a “student-athlete,” you should play your sport in high school and continue to play the sport in college. If you’re planning on playing sports at the varsity level, this may affect your admission to UC.
If you’re just joining a club, intramural, or recreational team during college and not competing on an official varsity team while in high school then it will not count towards your admission.
You must also be committed to participating regularly in athletic activities at UC.
EAP Program Eligibility
To be eligible for the EAP program, students must:
- Be a California resident.
- Be a high school student.
- Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (with immigration documentation).
International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Equivalency
You will not receive credit for your International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma if you apply to a University of California campus.
- The IB diploma is not equivalent to a UC degree.
- The IB diploma is not equivalent to a UC GPA.
- The IB diploma is not equivalent to a UC test score.
- The IB diploma is not equivalent to a UC major or minor
Advanced Placement (AP) Equivalency
Because the AP exam is graded on a scale of 1-5, you must receive a 3 or higher to be eligible for credit. The score will not necessarily determine admission; if you have taken an AP test and received a 4 or 5, you are still required to submit an official transcript with your application.
