The Student Loans Scheme is an initiative by the New Zealand government to help students with the cost of their study. It’s managed by StudyLink and operated by participating banks and lenders, who administer repayments of interest-free loans on behalf of the government.
To apply for a student loan as an international student, you must meet all eligibility criteria (such as having been enrolled in an approved course). You must also provide proof that your intended place of residence meets immigration requirements before becoming eligible for financial assistance from the Student Loan Scheme.
You can apply online or over the phone through your bank or lender – some will accept applications via post too (but this option is generally only available if applying for one type of loan).

The process is not difficult, but it does require a lot of attention to detail.
