Architecture schools in Canada are no less excellent than their counterparts in the United States or Europe. They provide students with an excellent foundation on which to build a career in architecture.

University of Toronto (John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design)

The University of Toronto (John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design) is a public research university in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is the largest university in Canada by enrollment with more than 80,000 students across three campuses: St George Campus (Upper and Lower), Scarborough Campus and Mississauga Campus.

The school was founded in 1849 as King’s College, making it one of the oldest schools in Canada. The University has been offering architectural programs since its first class was held in 1856 – the first Canadian architecture program offered at a public university.

Located on St George Street in downtown Toronto, it’s named after John H., who donated $15 million to the school after his death in 2011—the largest donation ever given to an academic institution at that time by an individual Canadian philanthropist (until recently).

McGill University (McGill School of Architecture)

McGill University is a public research university in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It was established in 1821 by royal charter, granted by King George IV of the United Kingdom.

McGill’s main campus is located on Mount Royal overlooking downtown Montreal and the Old Port and covers 1,000 acres (400 ha). The university’s 295 buildings are situated on 10 campuses in Montreal and two satellite campuses in Quebec City (McGill-Quebec) and Sherbrooke (McGill North), as well as several agricultural research stations spread over 4,800 hectares across the province of Quebec.

Carleton University (Azrieli School of Architecture and Urbanism)

Carleton University is located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The Azrieli School of Architecture and Urbanism is part of the Faculty of Public Affairs at Carleton University. It offers a Bachelor of Architectural Studies (BAS), a Bachelor of Arts (BA), a Bachelor of Environmental Studies (BES) and a joint BAS/BES program.

University of Waterloo (School of Architecture)

The University of Waterloo’s School of Architecture is often ranked as one of the top architecture schools in Canada. It offers both undergraduate and graduate programs, and its campus location is also ideal for students who want to attend an architecture school that has a location near a large city.

The undergraduate program has been given high ratings from several different resources, including the QS World University Rankings (QS WUR), where it was ranked #3 in Canada and #1 in Ontario. These ratings are based on things like student opinion surveys, academic peer review assessments, faculty-to-student ratios as well as other factors that contribute to a positive learning experience. The graduate program at UW also received good reviews from QS when they ranked it at #5 out of 19 Canadian institutions offering graduate studies in architecture (top 10).

Dalhousie University (Faculty of Architecture and Planning)

Dalhousie University is a public research university located in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. It was founded in 1818 by Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia George Ramsay and James Brenton, who had also been appointed Chief Justice of Nova Scotia. Dalhousie is a full-fledged member of the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC).

The Faculty of Architecture and Planning at Dalhousie University was established in 1962 with the objective to provide quality education in architecture and related fields. Programs offered by this faculty are:

Université de Montréal (École d’Architecture de l’Université de Montréal)

The School of Architecture at the Université de Montréal is known for its exceptional faculties, strong student body and incredible student life. It is located in Montreal, Quebec and attracts students from all over Canada and abroad. The school has a very good reputation among architecture schools across North America.

The school’s curriculum consists of courses on theory, history and aesthetics with an emphasis on sustainability and environmental design issues as well as urbanism. Students have access to studios where they can practice their skills under professional supervision while also working on real-world projects such as large scale planning or architectural competitions (international competitions are often held by prestigious architecture offices).

Queen’s University (Queen’s School of Architecture)

Ryerson University is a public research university in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is located north of Queen’s Park, in the residential community of the Grange, adjacent to the University of Toronto.

Ryerson University is Canada’s largest school of interior design. The Ryerson School of Interior Design has an international reputation for excellence in professional education and for its innovative approaches to teaching, research and practice within the field.

Western University (The Richard Ivey School of Business in London, Ontario).

Western University (The Richard Ivey School of Business) is located in London, Ontario. The school offers a variety of programs, such as the Bachelor of Commerce (Honours), Bachelor of Commerce (Honors), and Diploma in Financial Planning.

Tuition at Western University is $18,000 per year for Canadian students and $39,000 per year for international students.

Western University has approximately 2,900 undergraduate students and approximately 800 graduate students enrolled in their business program. International applicants must submit an IELTS score of 6 or higher with no section below 5.0/6; otherwise they may take an English proficiency exam such as TOEFL or CAEL after being accepted into the program if needed.
