The following is a quick overview of all the fees you are required to pay, including their relevance and approximate cost.

  • Required fees are determined by the university. These include your tuition fee (or, if you’re a resident student, your tuition fee plus room and board), your student health fee, your student athletic fee, and various optional credits, such as instructional technology costs (IT) and ION fees, which are fees for online resources used in courses. As an incoming freshman, you will not pay any of these mandatory fees until the payment deadline Wednesday at 11:59 p.m. week before classes begin on the Monday that follows that deadline (e.g., if this is the final Wednesday of January and May 16th is the payment deadline for 2018-2019 tuition, then you will not have to pay any mandatory fees until April 11th at 11:59 p.m.).
  • Other fees include non-mandatory general charges (such as books or laboratory materials) or travel expenses when doing research in other cities/countries than where UPD is located. These can be used only with prior approval from UPD’s Student Affairs Office and don’t come with an added benefit from attending UPD (for example: no housing options available).
  • Tuition fee includes mandatory student services charges for those who wish to use those services but aren’t required to take certain courses (such as student government elections).
