This is the same as every other nurse’s license renewal period.

2 Active duty military nurses will be granted a 90-day extension to renew.
If you are an active duty military nurse, you will be granted a 90-day extension to renew your license. You are not required to complete any continuing education courses during this time.
When it comes to renewal, you must renew your license every two years in order to continue practicing as a registered nurse in Maryland. However, if you are on active duty with the United States Army, Navy or Air Force or called up for state active duty by the Governor of Maryland (or his/her designee), then your license may be renewed once every four years instead of twice in that period.
You can renew online via the Board’s website with a credit card or check (make checks payable “State Treasurer”). If you prefer not to pay online and would rather send in payment by mail, please send payment along with documentation proving that you meet one of the criteria above for extending your renewal date (for example: military orders).
3 You can renew your license online, by mail or in person.
You can renew your license online, by mail or in person.
- Online renewal is the fastest and most convenient way to renew your license. You’ll need a secure email address and an active credit card. If you choose this option, you’ll receive a temporary renewal notice with instructions for printing and submitting your application forms along with payment via mail (check or money order). The temporary license will last through the expiration date of the current one while we process your application so there’s no interruption in service during this time period. Once your official certificate arrives in the mail, it must be presented when picking up supplies at any pharmacy.
- Mail renewal is also available if you prefer it over online options; however, we recommend using our online tool instead since it’s faster and less expensive than sending documents through U.S. Mail (and has fewer security risks). In addition to mailing all required documents and payment as described above under “Online Renewal,” please include proof of identity by sending:
- A copy of either one item from List A OR two items from List B below.* List A includes items such as driver’s licenses issued by other states/territories within North America only; passports issued anywhere outside North America but not expired more than five years ago; letters/cards showing name change such as marriage certificates or divorce decrees etc
