Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate
1. The Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate is designed to prepare students for the Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) Exam and for entry-level employment in long-term care settings.
The Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate is a six-month program that is designed to prepare students for the CNA exam and entry-level employment in long-term care settings. The program includes a series of five core courses that cover safety procedures, infection control, nutrition and hydration, resident rights and responsibilities, interpersonal communication skills and basic nursing concepts. Additionally, students will participate in hands-on clinical training at established Long Term Care facilities throughout the District. The majority of this clinical training will be performed at one or more of our partner sites (some within walking distance from campus).

The CNA certificate includes a series of five core courses including CNA lab and practicum. These courses are:
- Introduction to CNA
- CNA Lab and Practicum (includes two required practicums)
- Cultural Diversity in Health Care
- Human Growth and Development
- Fundamentals of Nursing
3. Prerequisites: None.
There are no prior training or experience requirements for this program. All students must pass a background check, drug test and physical exam.
4. Length of program: Six months, full-time.
The program requires a total of 6 months to complete, consisting of clinical experience and practical nursing skills training. Students are required to attend classes 2 nights per week for three consecutive semesters (fall, winter, spring). The remaining time is spent in the lab area where students practice their skills with patients under the supervision of a certified nurse assistant instructor. Clinical rotations can be scheduled at any one of our facilities across New York City and Long Island 24 hours per day during regular business hours Monday through Friday.
Students must successfully complete all requirements before they may graduate from this program.
5. To earn this certificate, students must complete five core classes.
To earn your CNA certification, you must complete five core courses: one on safety, two on anatomy and physiology, one on caring for people with various conditions and illnesses, and one on infection control. The program is six months long.
The program requires a practicum as well; during this time, you’ll gain hands-on experience in a healthcare setting of your choice under the supervision of licensed staff members. You must pass both the written examination for this course and its practical component before earning your certificate.
