In 2006, Maryland finished first in “The Capital of College Sports” competition among Division I schools. The contest was sponsored by the Capital One Bowl and consisted of head-to-head competitions between schools across various sports events. The Terrapins won three titles: men’s basketball over Duke University; women’s basketball over Penn State; and baseball over Florida State University to capture the overall title.

Vernon Davis, former NFL tight end and current NFL free agent, graduated from College Park in 2006 in three years with a bachelor’s degree in studio art.
Darrius Heyward-Bey was drafted by the Oakland Raiders seventh overall in the 2009 NFL Draft and played wide receiver for them until 2012. He then played for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Indianapolis Colts, and currently plays for the Pittsburgh Steelers again. He earned his bachelor’s degree at College Park in 2011.
