Colleges That Allow Dogs on Campus
Dogs are some of the best companions you can have. They’re loyal, they’re affectionate, and they make great friends. And if you’re a student, a dog is also pretty useful for helping you study! So it’s no surprise that many schools now welcome furry friends on campus—and even encourage them. In fact, some colleges even offer scholarships to students who bring their dogs with them to class each day! These are the top 10 schools that allow dogs on campus:
Amherst College in Massachusetts
- Dogs are allowed on campus.
- They must be on a leash.
- They must be licensed, vaccinated and microchipped.
- They must be well-mannered.
Eckerd College in Florida
Eckerd College in Florida is home to over 1,000 students and their furry friends. Dogs are allowed on campus in the general areas of the campus, with some exceptions. They are not allowed in dorms or the dining hall, for example. The college does require that dogs be kept on a leash at all times and that they are up to date on all shots and have a valid rabies certificate as well.
College of the Atlantic in Maine
With a coastal location, College of the Atlantic (COA) offers students the opportunity to study environmental science and environmental education. In addition to its academic programs, COA also allows dogs on campus.
There are some restrictions though—only certain breeds of dogs are allowed on campus, including: English bulldogs, Boston terriers and French bulldogs; pugs; miniature pinschers; Yorkshire terrier; Pekingese; Lhasa apso; Shih Tzu’s and Maltese. All other breeds must live in student housing off-campus with their owners.
The college does require that all pets be current on vaccines for rabies and distemper/parvo virus before being allowed on campus. The pet owner is responsible for keeping their dog’s vaccinations up-to-date throughout the school year by providing proof of vaccination every three years during a checkup at an approved veterinary clinic in order to keep up their status as an approved breed at COA
Saint Francis University in Pennsylvania
Saint Francis University in Pennsylvania is a private Catholic university in Loretto, Pennsylvania. Saint Francis University has a variety of majors and minors to choose from. The school also offers undergraduate degrees online, as well as certificates, graduate programs and doctorate programs. The School of Nursing offers an RN-to-BSN program for registered nurses who want to earn their bachelor’s degree through the on-campus program or through one of several online options. Saint Francis University is a member of the NCAA Division I Northeast Conference and competes against other colleges including Dayton, Robert Morris University (Illinois), Sacred Heart (Connecticut), Bryant University (Rhode Island) and more!
Guilford College in North Carolina
Guilford College is a private liberal arts college located in Greensboro, North Carolina. It was founded in 1837 by Quakers and has been dog-friendly since then.
Guilford College has 2,100 students and a 47% acceptance rate. It offers 27 majors, 19 minors, and 12 pre-professional programs to undergraduate students.
Guilford College has a reputation for its excellent academic program that focuses on the liberal arts tradition of its Quaker roots with an emphasis on community service through learning experiences outside the classroom as well as inside it (about 10% of all students volunteer).

You can bring your dog to Yale University in Connecticut. This is a result of a student petition, which the university accepted. The policy does not apply to all dogs or students and it only applies to certain areas of campus.
Berea College in Kentucky
Berea College is a residential liberal arts college in Berea, Kentucky. It is a coeducational college that welcomes all students regardless of their ethnic background, religious affiliation or social economic status. The college was founded by abolitionists to provide an education for students from poor families who could not afford to pay the tuition of other colleges.
