Colleges That Give Athletic Scholarships

For many athletes, an athletic scholarship is the key to getting a degree. Of course, these scholarships are not free: you need to be a star athlete in order to earn them. The good news is that there are plenty of schools around the country that offer athletic scholarships regardless of your skill level or major, so it’s worth looking into whether your school offers one as part of its financial aid package. Here are some colleges that offer athletic scholarships:

University of Michigan.

The University of Michigan has a long, storied history with athletics. If you’re hoping to play football or basketball at the University of Michigan and get a scholarship, this is your best bet. The school offers athletic scholarships for both men and women in 22 different sports. These include:

• Football
• Basketball
• Volleyball

and track and cross country for women only (the men don’t have varsity teams). They also offer scholarships for hockey, soccer, baseball, golf, tennis, swimming and diving; gymnastics; rowing; lacrosse.

Clemson University.

Clemson University is a public university located in Clemson, South Carolina. The school was founded in 1889 and is currently home to over 19,000 students from all 50 states and more than 100 countries. Clemson is one of the most respected universities in the country due to its traditional values, excellent academics and strong athletics program. Clemson fields 21 varsity sports teams that compete at the NCAA Division I level as members of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). The Tigers have won seven national championships: football (1981), men’s outdoor track & field (1981), women’s outdoor track & field (1986), men’s tennis (1987), baseball (1990) and women’s soccer (2011).

University of Oregon.

Oregon’s football program is wildly successful, but its athletic department is not that big. The school has been able to keep the cost of tuition down by offering scholarships and financial aid to athletes.

In 2015, UO football players received $8,000 each year while basketball players got $1,000 annually. Baseball players received $2,000 and track and field athletes were given $2,000 per year as well. Swimmers get $4,000 per season from the university’s athletic department but only if they maintain a 3.0 GPA in high school or college courses throughout their time at UO.

University of Florida.

The University of Florida offers athletic scholarships for football, basketball, baseball, softball, tennis, track and field/cross country/swimming and diving. In addition to these sports scholarships they also offer academic scholarships on a case by case basis to students in other sports such as soccer or lacrosse.

University of Alabama.

The University of Alabama has a storied history in college athletics. It’s a member of the Southeastern Conference, where it competes with other notable schools like Auburn, LSU and Florida. The university’s athletic department is one of the largest in the country; its football team ranks among the best programs in history.

The school offers dozens of sports scholarships each year for both men and women to play basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball or other popular sports at Alabama’s flagship campus in Tuscaloosa or its satellite campuses around the state.

Ohio State University.

The Ohio State University offers athletic scholarships in football, basketball, soccer and baseball. These awards are given to student-athletes who maintain good academic standing and have a minimum 2.5 GPA. Athletic scholarships are not renewable, but are renewable if an athlete earns the right to be on scholarship again by meeting the following criteria:

• Maintaining at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA
• Continuing participation in intercollegiate athletics
• Demonstrating financial need

Louisiana State University.

Louisiana State University (LSU) is a big school. It has a good football team and a good basketball team, and it’s also one of the best baseball schools in the country. In addition, LSU’s soccer and track programs are both nationally renowned for their excellence.

But what you may not know about LSU is that it offers athletic scholarships to students who are interested in playing any of these sports at a high level—so long as they’re willing to commit themselves to training on campus or traveling off-campus with their coaches during breaks between semesters.

University of Georgia.

• University of Georgia: UGA offers both academic and athletic scholarships. It is one of the top schools in the country, known for its academics and athletics. Some popular sports include football, basketball, baseball, soccer and track & field.
• University of Florida: The Gator Nation is proud of what their team has been able to achieve over time—they have a strong basketball program that competes at NCAA Division I level; in addition to this impressive feat being awarded with an NCAA championship trophy in 2014! This university also has many other notable achievements including winning an SEC title as well as appearing in five national championship games since 1990 (NCAA Football). They are also known for their spirit squads which consist of cheerleaders on top of their dance teams such as step teams or zumba groups!

Stanford University.

Stanford University is a private university in Palo Alto, California. It was founded in 1885 by Leland Stanford, former governor of California and U.S. Senator.

Stanford is one of the leading institutions for the study of human biology and biological engineering, with over 1,300 faculty members working to advance our knowledge of health and disease through multidisciplinary research programs focused on cancer, cardiovascular issues such as heart failure and arrhythmias (irregular heartbeat), diabetes mellitus type 2 (diabetes), kidney disease as well as neurodegenerative diseases including Parkinson’s disease/Parkinsonism and Alzheimer’s disease/Alzheimerism.[3]

Stanford University is also known for its prestigious law school; it has produced several notable alumni including governors like Jerry Brown who served two terms as Governor of California from 1975-1983 before being elected again in 2011 after spending 15 years away from politics while serving his church as pastor at Grace Cathedral Episcopal Church among other things.[4]

All the big schools do, as well as many smaller ones. Athletic scholarships are not limited to the big schools, or even just to football and basketball players. At least one school I know of is so small that it has no sports teams at all and yet it offers athletic scholarships—that’s how you know they really want to attract people who are good at something.

I said this earlier, but it bears repeating: there are no limits on what can be offered as an athletic scholarship! It doesn’t matter if your sport is swimming, track and field, cross-country running or any other sport where participants compete in events in front of crowds (or on television). It doesn’t matter if you’re a man or woman; there are scholarships out there for both sexes. And while some sports (such as football) may offer more athletic scholarships than others (such as soccer), each sport has its own unique opportunities available only through this type of funding program

You can see that it’s not just the big schools that give out athletic scholarships. The list of schools above proves this. If you have a passion for sports and want to make a career out of it, then look into what these universities have to offer in terms of education as well as athletics. Just remember: there are more scholarships than just ones for athletes!
