Georgia Institute of Technology

Georgia Institute of Technology (commonly referred to as Georgia Tech or GT) is a public research university and institute of technology in Atlanta, Georgia. It is a part of the University System of Georgia and has satellite campuses in Savannah, Georgia; Metz, France; Athlone, Ireland; Shenzhen, China; and Singapore.

The school was founded in 1885 as the Georgia School of Technology as part of Reconstruction plans to build an industrial economy in the post-Civil War Southern United States. Initially, it offered only a degree in mechanical engineering. By 1901, its curriculum had expanded to include electrical engineering and chemistry programs with a total enrollment of around 500 students. In 1948 after World War II ended its name was changed to the Georgia Institute of Technology because it had grown into an advanced technical institute offering a wider range of degrees than just architectural engineering.[4][5]

Purdue’s on-campus football stadium, Ross-Ade Stadium, is an all-seater bowl stadium that was opened back in 1924 with a capacity to seat 52,500 people for football games; however due to renovations made since then some seats behind each end zone have been removed reducing capacity to 49,000 people for most games and less for smaller ones[4]. The school’s basketball arena named Mackey Arena has been home to men’s basketball team since 1967 when it opened up with seating capacity of 13,222 people; but after renovations made during 2012 (included adding six rows) it now holds 12 thousand nine hundred plus fans which makes it one of largest arenas in NCAA Division I college sports.[5]
