If you’re an avid League of Legends player and are looking for a school that supports your interests, check out these colleges that boast their own esports teams.
Colleges That Have League Of Legends Teams
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI)
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) is a private research university in Troy, New York. The school was established in 1824 and is home to the League of Legends team RPI CSL (competitve sports league). The team is a member of NACE (National Association of Collegiate eSports), which is an organization dedicated to competitive gaming within collegiate institutions.
University of California, Berkeley (UCB)
The University of California, Berkeley (UCB) has an established League of Legends team that participates in the Collegiate StarLeague (CSL). The team is a part of the UCB esports program, which offers students scholarships and resources to compete in athletic tournaments. Outside of their CSL matches, they also host events and giveaways for fans at UCB’s campus.
The UCB esports team also hosts a club for members who enjoy playing video games but aren’t interested in competing professionally. The club encourages members to play against other schools at LAN parties or online matches on platforms like Steam or BattleNet
Maryville University
Maryville University (MO) is located in Maryville, Missouri. It has one team that is active for League of Legends and has won 1 championship. They have 5 players, 2 fans, and 3 wins.
Robert Morris University
RMU is a private university with a Division I sports program, located in Moon Township, Pennsylvania. The school has over 6,000 undergraduate students and more than 1,100 graduate students enrolled in the Pittsburgh area. The university offers Bachelor’s degrees in more than 40 majors and Master’s degrees in several fields such as business administration, education administration and information technology management.
The RMU esports team began competing during the fall of 2017 under the name “Robert Morris University Eagles,” but switched to their current name later that fall season after being accepted into the League of Legends College Championship Series (LCS). In addition to winning their first match against Bentley University (who they had previously lost too), RMU went on to win three other matches before losing two straight games against Liberty University and The Ohio State University—but still managed to finish second place overall for their conference!
Although it may not be easy for some colleges/universities since most don’t have any experience with competitive gaming yet–we hope these teams inspire others around them as well!
Clemson University
Clemson University has a League of Legends team. Clemson University is a public, co-educational, land-grant, space-grant, research university in Clemson, South Carolina, United States. The main campus is located on 1,000 acres with an additional 12000+ acre extension off campus across the state.
Columbia College Chicago
League of Legends is a MOBA game, which means that it’s played in a team format. The game can be quite complex, with lots of different types of characters and strategies to think about. That’s why it’s really important to have teammates who are willing to share their knowledge and experience with you in order for your team to succeed. If you want some guidance on how to form the best League of Legends team possible, then take a look at this list below!
Columbia College Chicago has many different clubs for students who want to get involved with video games on campus or just play casually after classes end on Friday nights. One such club is called CCSL (Collegiate Star League), and they compete against other schools like MIT University (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) every year during tournaments held at PAX East convention events across North America every springtime since 2009
Utah Valley University (UVU)
Utah Valley University is a mid-sized university in Orem, Utah. UVU has been a part of the League of Legends community since 2012 and fields teams across multiple esports games. The school also has a large number of athletics programs, including men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball, soccer and cross country running among others.
UVU offers many different undergraduate degrees as well as numerous graduate programs including computer science, education leadership and nursing to name just a few examples. It should be noted that not all students who attend UVU are required to participate in an athletic program; however if you do want to actively engage with any team or organization on campus then this may require an additional fee depending on what kind of level you wish to play at (e.g., recreational vs club).
Overall I would recommend this school if you’re looking for something affordable but still want access to quality education – especially if gaming interests you!
Hunter College
Hunter College is a public college in New York City, with campuses located in Manhattan and the Bronx. It is part of the City University of New York system, or CUNY.
Hunter’s League of Legends team is called Hunter eSports, and they compete in the Collegiate StarLeague (CSL). The CSL is a collegiate esports league that offers teams across North America an opportunity to compete against one another for scholarships and prizes. The league was founded in 2009 by students at UC Irvine, who wanted to create an organized competition system for their school’s game club. Since then, it has grown into one of the biggest collegiate esports leagues in North America.
University of California, Irvine (UCI)
The University of California, Irvine (UCI) has a League of Legends team. UCI’s League of Legends team is one of the most successful collegiate gaming teams in North America. The team won the National Championship in 2013 and again in 2014.
In addition to its success at national tournaments, UCI’s League of Legends team won an award for Best eSports Team at The Game Awards 2016 for their efforts over the past year.
Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU)
Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, New Jersey is a private university with a sizeable student body of over 20,000. With its large campus, FDU makes for an ideal setting for collegiate esports teams to practice and compete. The school’s endowment is also larger than average at $50 million dollars and its tuition is quite high at just under $50K annually.
Getting a college education is important, and being into esports is cool.
If you’re looking for a way to get involved in esports and make some money, then college is the place to go.
Many universities offer scholarships to students who excel at League of Legends or other esports titles. Even if you’re not one of those people, it’s still possible that your skill could earn you a scholarship from your school.
You may end up meeting new friends or even finding a romantic partner through team activities! Your on-campus club may also have opportunities for networking with industry professionals, which will help you launch your career after graduation.
Closing
In conclusion, I think it’s great that colleges around the world are starting to recognize esports as a legitimate sport. This means that students who love League of Legends or other esports games can get an education while still pursuing their passion for gaming.
