Starehe was founded as a school for the children of coffee farmers who worked on the estates owned by Lord Delamere. It was initially named St Stephen’s College and established in 1925 with only 8 students. The number of students increased rapidly over time, which led to the construction of new classrooms, dormitories and staff houses until there were no more vacant land plots at the original site. In 1945, one year after Kenya gained its independence from Britain, it was renamed Starehe Secondary School because it had become popularly known as such throughout East Africa due to its excellent academic performance during examinations each year (Wikipedia).

Lenana School is an independent, co-educational, day and boarding school located in Nairobi, Kenya. The school was founded in 1913 by the Church Mission Society (CMS) as a boys’ preparatory school for its other schools: Alliance High School and Tumutumu Girls’ Secondary School. It held its first classes on 1 September 1913 in rented premises at Upper Hill. In 1916 it moved to its present site on Lenana Road and has been there ever since.[1]
In 1921 the CMS opened the doors of Lenana House to girls who wished to continue their education after completing their primary schooling at Alliance Girls’ High School or St Mary’s Luanda Road Primary School.[2] In 1953 Catholic nuns took over management of Lenana House from CMS missionaries; today it remains an independent school but shares some resources with Alliance High School through agreements between them.[3]
