If you are interested in becoming an architect, there are plenty of schools that offer degrees in architectural engineering. These programs can prepare you for a career in architecture without requiring as much coursework as an architecture degree.

University of Texas at Austin
University of Texas (UT) at Austin is one of the largest public universities in the United States. It is a research university with a strong focus on engineering and architecture, and is known for its architectural programs. It has an enrollment of over 50,000 students. UT Austin has been ranked as one of the top public schools in America by U.S News & World Report for several years running, due largely to its reputation for excellence in both engineering and architecture programs—especially within its graduate schools where it ranks highly among other well-known institutions such as MIT or Harvard University.
Morgan State University
Morgan State University is a public research university in Baltimore, Maryland, United States. It is a historically black college and university (HBCU). Morgan State was founded in 1867 as the Centenary Biblical Institute but later became known as the Normal School for Colored Teachers. Known for its programs in engineering, business administration, criminal justice and creative writing, it has been ranked among the top ten HBCUs by U.S. News & World Report since 2005.[3]
The school’s main campus encompasses over 200 acres (81 ha) of land with over 100 buildings directly on site including: College Hall (the oldest building), which houses administrative offices; The Center for Information Technology; The Learning Resource Center and The Library Building which contains collections of books as well as electronic resources such as databases and journals; Gilman Hall which houses classrooms primarily used by science students; Founders Hall where art classes are taught; Weaver Chapel which serves as a central location for religious activities both on-campus and throughout Baltimore City.[4]
University of Southern California
The University of Southern California, commonly referred to as USC, is a public research university in Los Angeles, California. Founded in 1880, it is ranked among the world’s top universities and has been recognized as one of America’s Best Colleges by Forbes since 1998.
USC offers more than 350 bachelor’s degrees and 170 master’s degrees through its 12 colleges and schools. Approximately 20,000 students attend classes on the campus at the University Park campus in downtown Los Angeles or at its other satellite campuses throughout the state of California (including locations in Santa Monica).

Texas A&M University is known for its engineering programs and overall caliber of education. Their program in architectural engineering, which has been around since 2001 and offers both a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering degree and a Master’s program with an emphasis on the design side of architecture, offers opportunities for students to work with cutting-edge technologies, such as 3D modeling tools. The class sizes are relatively small—with only about 100 graduate students enrolled each year—to ensure that all students receive personal attention from their professors.
It is a good idea to get a degree from a school that you like.
The first thing to consider is how much you like the school. If you do not like the college, then it will be very difficult for you to make it through four years there. You want a place where you can learn while also enjoying yourself and meeting people, so try to find one with all these qualities.
It is also important to look at the location of each potential college. For example, if there are no colleges nearby that offer architectural engineering degrees, then choosing one farther away could mean having a harder time finding housing or internships while attending classes at another school.
It is also important to consider prices when choosing schools because paying for tuition and other fees can be expensive if they aren’t covered by financial aid or scholarships (which we’ll discuss later).
