Colleges That Offer Counselling Courses In Zimbabwe

There are many colleges that offer counselling courses in Zimbabwe. However, this is not a complete list since there may be other colleges with courses for counselling in your area.

Africa University

The Africa University offers a Bachelor of Arts in Counselling, a Master of Arts in Counselling and a Doctor of Philosophy in Counselling. The university is located in Masvingo.

Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT)

Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT) is a public university that was established in 1992. CUT is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities and accredited by the National Council for Higher Education. The university offers Bachelor’s degrees, Master’s degrees and Doctorate degrees in various fields such as Business Administration, Education, Engineering, Health Sciences and Law among others.

Midlands State Univerity (MSU)

Midlands State University (MSU) is a university in Zimbabwe. It is located in Gweru, the Midlands Province, and was established in 1981. The university has three campuses: two in Gweru and one in Bindura. Its main campus houses most of its academic departments as well as its administrative offices.

MSU offers a broad range of programmes on undergraduate and postgraduate levels including degrees like Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Laws (LLB), Master’s degrees such as Master of Public Administration (MPA), Master’s degree by Research and Doctoral Degrees such as PhDs

National University of Science and Technology (NUST)

NUST is a public university located in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. The university was founded in 1965, and it’s one of the oldest universities in the country.

NUST has a counselling department that offers a BSc in Counselling. Students can complete this degree over four years if they choose to study full-time, but many students take longer than three years to finish their studies. This program teaches students about counseling theories and practices as well as how human beings interact with each other on an emotional level and how this affects their daily lives both professionally and personally. The curriculum includes courses like:

  • Introduction To Psychology And Counselling
  • Psychological Development Through Life Stages
  • Socialization And Psychotherapy Processes In Therapy Settings

Bindura University of Science Education (BUSE)

Bindura University of Science Education (BUSE) is a public university in Zimbabwe. The university was founded in 1984, and it has three campuses: Bindura Campus, Chegutu Campus and Chitungwiza Campus.

The university has over 20 000 students on its rolls, with an academic staff strength of around 1 300 members. It is considered one of the largest universities in Zimbabwe.

BUSE is a member of the Association of African Universities (AAU), Regional Network for Capacity Development in Africa (RECAAP), Southern African Development Community (SADC) Commission for Higher Education (CHE), Southern African Regional Universities Association (SARUA).

Harare Polytechnic College

Harare Polytechnic College is a public institution of higher education in Zimbabwe. The college was established in 1962 as a technical college of the University of Rhodesia and Nyasaland. The campus is located in Harare, Zimbabwe.

The university offers courses in counseling, nursing, information technology and business management among other disciplines.

Midlands State University (MSU)

Midlands State University (MSU) is a public university in Zimbabwe. The university was established in 1975 and is one of the largest in terms of student population and staff size.

In Zimbabwe, there are various courses that you can take to become a counsellor. These include:

  • Counselling in Higher Education – offered by the University of Zimbabwe;
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Counselling Studies – offered by the University of South Africa (UNISA);
  • Diploma in Counselling – offered by Zimbabwe Open University; and
  • Certificate in Counseling and Development – offered by Zimsec.

You should know that universities are not the only institutions teaching counselling courses, and we have not included them here. There are also many private institutions offering such courses, and even some high schools. However, these colleges have been selected based on their reputation as well as their reputation in providing quality education.
