The medical field is competitive, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get into a top-tier university. These schools offer excellent programs and classes to prepare you for your desired career.

Stanford University

Stanford University School of Medicine is located in California, and it’s one of the top medical schools in the country. It also happens to be one of the best medical schools in the world.

University of Pennsylvania

University of Pennsylvania

The University of Pennsylvania’s School of Medicine is ranked 9th in the country by U.S. News & World Report. It also offers doctoral, masters and baccalaureate degrees in nursing and graduate degrees in bioengineering, biophysics and biomedical informatics.

Duke University

Duke University is a private research university located in Durham, North Carolina, United States. Founded by Methodists and Quakers in the early 19th century, the school moved to Durham from Randolph County in 1837. In 1924, tobacco and electric power industrialist James Buchanan Duke established The Duke Endowment and it was renamed Duke University in honor of his deceased father, Washington Duke.[3]

Duke’s campus spans over 8,600 acres (35 km2) on three contiguous campuses in Durham as well as a marine lab in Beaufort. The main campus—designed largely by architect Julian Abele—incorporates Gothic architecture with the 300-acre (1.2 km2) Sarah P. Duke Gardens[4] that incorporate natural features into its design.[5]

The university’s Trinity College of Arts & Sciences is one of four constituent schools that together constitute the “Divinity School”; which itself dates back to 1819 and is considered one of America’s oldest graduate schools.[6][7][8]

Johns Hopkins University

Johns Hopkins University is a well-known research university in Baltimore, Maryland. It also has a medical school, which offers programs leading to a Ph.D., M.D., and D.O. degree (doctor of osteopathic medicine). Its medical school was founded in 1893 as the Baltimore Medical College and it became affiliated with Johns Hopkins University in 1915. The school’s campus is located on East Monument Street near downtown Baltimore.

Washington University in St. Louis

Washington University in St. Louis is a private research university in St. Louis, Missouri. It has a medical school, a dental school and a nursing school. The medical school is ranked #8 in the country by U.S News & World Report’s Best Medical Schools rankings (2019).

Brown University

Brown University is a private Ivy League research university located in Providence, Rhode Island. It is the seventh-oldest institution of higher education in New England and one of the Ivy League universities. Brown’s undergraduate curriculum has been ranked among the top 10 national liberal arts schools in U.S. News & World Report rankings for most of its existence.

Brown also has five undergraduate colleges, six graduate and professional schools, and a medical school, the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University (WAMSBU).

Cornell University

Cornell University, founded in 1865, is a private Ivy League research university located in Ithaca, New York. Cornell was established by U.S. Senator Ezra Cornell and other prominent New York citizens as an institution where students could study agriculture and the mechanical arts without leaving their home state. As of Fall 2015, Cornell enrolled 14,836 undergraduates and 6,719 graduate/professional students across its main campus as well as three satellite campuses outside of Ithaca: West Campus (formerly known as Goldwin Smith Hall), Downtown Campus (formerly Hotel School), and Weill Medical College of Cornell University in Qatar (WMCQ).

Columbia University

Columbia University is a private Ivy League research university in New York City. It was founded in 1754 as King’s College by royal charter of George II of Great Britain. The school moved to Manhattan in 1896 and is currently headquartered at Columbia University Heights Campus, near the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

Columbia enrolls approximately 5,000 students each year, including undergraduates and graduate students from more than 70 countries around the globe. About half of these students come from outside the United States; they achieve representation across all racial groups and are largely admitted through a holistic review process that takes into account academic achievement, extracurricular activities (including community service), personal characteristics such as leadership potential, character traits like integrity and passion for learning—and yes—ethnicity or country of origin if the applicant does not fit within standard admissions criteria based solely on GPA and test scores alone!

Harvard University

Harvard University is the oldest institution of higher learning in the United States and one of the most prestigious universities in the world. The medical school at Harvard has been ranked as number one in US News & World Report and was named one of the best medical schools by QS World University Rankings and Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

The focus for students at Harvard Medical School is research and community service, which makes this program ideal for those who are interested in focusing more on research than clinical care. Students will complete their residency training at one of over 400 hospitals across the country, including seven affiliated hospitals located within walking distance from campus.

Northwestern University (Feinberg)

Northwestern University is a private research university based in Evanston, Illinois. It was founded by John Evans in 1851, who sought to establish a non-denominational school that would promote the sciences and arts. The University’s motto is Crescat scientia; vita excolatur (Latin for “May knowledge increase; wisdom be perfected”).

The Feinberg School of Medicine is located on the Chicago campus as part of Northwestern University Medical School. Its campus consists of 16 buildings plus additional facilities for research and education located throughout Chicago.

• The University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) is a public research university located in the Westwood neighborhood of Los Angeles, California, United States. It was founded in 1919 as the “Southern Branch” of the California State Normal School at Los Angeles (now known as San Fernando Valley State College). It became an autonomous institution on July 1, 1922 and renamed UCLA with its present name ten years later.
