Indian River State College

Indian River State College offers a police academy that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies. The program is a two-semester, 28-credit hour program, which includes classroom and field training. Students must also complete an internship at the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office or with another law enforcement agency.

Students who successfully complete this degree are eligible for employment in various positions within state, local, tribal and federal law enforcement agencies.

St. Petersburg College

St. Petersburg College offers a two-year degree in Criminal Justice. The program is designed for students who wish to transfer to a four-year institution, but do not want to spend the extra time and money on additional classes. It consists of three semesters of coursework that can be completed in as little as one year or as long as two years, depending on how many courses you take each semester.

These programs require 28 credit hours consisting entirely of electives such as Social Sciences, Law Enforcement Administration, Criminal Procedure and Juvenile Delinquency Prevention and Treatment Strategies; however they do not include any required core curriculum courses like many other common police academy programs do (i.e., Introduction to Law Enforcement).
