If you’ve always wanted to study abroad or travel extensively, but can’t speak a lick of Spanish, French, Italian or any other language, then these schools are perfect for you. They require four years of a foreign language before they’ll even consider accepting an applicant. If you’re curious about how much time this will take out of your life to fulfill this requirement, it’s worth noting that most colleges require three years of college-level studies in the target language (and two years is usually not enough). So be sure to factor that into your plans if you plan on attending one of these schools:

Colorado State University

Colorado State University (CSU)

Colorado State University is a land-grant research university located in Fort Collins, Colorado. The ‘Mile High’ campus is just an hour’s drive from Denver, an international hub of commerce. Marquette University

Marquette University is a private research university in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The university was founded by John Martin Henni, the first Catholic bishop of Milwaukee, as a liberal arts college for men. It is named after 17th-century missionary and explorer Father Jacques Marquette.

The main campus is located on a parklike setting overlooking Lake Michigan and includes an additional campus in downtown Milwaukee that houses the Marquette University law school.

Indiana University-Bloomington

IU requires four years of foreign language, which can be fulfilled through your AP or IB scores. IU’s website explains how it determines what languages are required and how many semesters students are expected to study them.

University of South Florida

Two years of a foreign language are required for admission to USF. If you have not completed two years of a single language by the time you complete your high school requirements, then you must take and pass a placement examination in order to be eligible for college-level courses in that language. If a student is not proficient in a foreign language, they may take one or more courses as electives until they pass the test at which time they will become eligible for regular classes.

University of Houston

The University of Houston requires students to complete four years of a foreign language in order to graduate. Students are required to take one year each in two different languages, and two semesters may be taken in the same semester.

University of Miami

University of Miami is a private research university located in Coral Gables, Florida, United States. It is a member of the Association of American Universities.
