The SAT Subject Tests are required for all applicants. The College recommends taking one or more of the SAT Subject Tests, but they are not required for admission to Barnard’s freshman class.

If you have taken an Advanced Placement (AP) test and have demonstrated high achievement in that subject area on your AP test, you may provide your score report as an alternative to taking an SAT Subject Test in that subject area. Please see our AP policy for further information.

Students applying to The Gallatin School of Individualized Study must submit two SAT Subject Test scores: one from Math Level 1 and one from Science Level 1 or Literature and Writing (English).

Georgetown University (DC)

Georgetown University (DC)

Georgetown requires two SAT Subject Tests: Math Level 2 or a science test. Other schools may require you to take multiple tests in different areas, so be sure to check individual school requirements for more information.

Georgia Institute of Technology (GA)

The Georgia Institute of Technology (GA) requires two SAT subject tests for admission. The University recommends that students take the Math Level 2 and Science test, but they also allow you to choose two SAT Subject Tests of your choosing.

For most students, we recommend taking both a math and science test or one math and one science test so that you can highlight your strengths in each category. For example, if you are good at writing essays but struggle with algebraic concepts in math classes, it may make sense for you to take a second English-Language Arts exam as well as a Biology exam.

However, if you do not like any of the ELA options offered by GA Tech (for example), this might be an opportunity for some creativity! You could consider taking Music Theory instead; although it is not technically considered “English” by most institutions because it is about music rather than literature or language arts specifically (like ELA would), many schools consider musical ability to be part of their “English” requirement due to its focus on reading from musical notation rather than writing essays about personal experiences such as those found on standard Writing sections at other universities across America—so don’t worry too much about whether Music Theory counts toward meeting all four requirements needed for admission into Georgia Tech!

Harvard College (MA)

The following are the SAT Subject Tests that Harvard College (MA) requires:

This post lists colleges with Sat subject tests requirements

This page lists colleges that require SAT subject tests. Many colleges and universities recommend that applicants submit scores for one or more SAT subject tests, and some schools even require them. For example, Columbia University requires applicants to take an SAT I Math Level 2 (no calculator) or an ACT Mathematics Test; The University of Chicago recommends that applicants take either a math level 1 or level 2 test but does not require it; Washington & Lee University recommends two SAT Subject Tests in addition to the basic core curriculum requirements; and Sarah Lawrence College requires applicants to submit two SAT Subject Tests in any two subjects (excluding the optional essay) on which they plan to major.

Colleges recommend taking subject tests if they want to ensure you’re well-rounded and have demonstrated academic proficiency across various disciplines. Some schools make certain requirements available only through specific types of exams or will consider only certain scores when evaluating your application for admission into their undergraduate program. Other schools may also require students who are applying for honors programs within the university system (i.e., Honors Program at Harvard).

Closing

The SAT Subject Tests are a great way to show off your strengths and interests, and we recommend you take them if you have time. Many private colleges require them, and they can be helpful in other ways too: some universities use SAT Subject Tests as part of their application process, while others use them as supplements to your college essay or transcript.
