Demonstrated need is the difference between what the student’s family can afford to pay for the student’s education and the cost of attending Columbia College. In determining demonstrated need, we consider a number of factors including:

A limited number of merit-based awards are also available for international undergraduates in each class.

- The International Student Initiative is designed to increase the amount of foreign financial aid. It’s open to students from outside the U.S. who are applying for federal financial aid for the first time.
- The Global Access Initiative is a program that provides additional financial support for international students transferring from a two-year college. Students can apply before they’ve been admitted if they meet these requirements:
- *You have an undergraduate degree or equivalent education that satisfies the admissions requirements of your desired program at Columbia University; and*
- *You have completed at least 60 credits of an associate’s degree.*
