Cortland State University of New York is a public liberal arts school located in Cortland, NY. It was founded in 1868 and offers more than 100 majors and minors to its students. The application process is completed online at www.cortland.edu/apply.

You may submit your application as soon as it is ready, even though the deadline has passed; however, it is important that all materials are submitted by May 1 without exception (please see deadlines above). Applications must be complete with no missing documents and official test scores must arrive at our office by June 15 for fall admission applications and December 15 for spring admission applications. We cannot guarantee that incomplete files will be considered or reviewed on time due to space limitations in our programs of study and limited resources available during peak periods of demand such as summer/fall registration and graduation ceremonies scheduled prior to May 1st each year regardless of whether they occur prior or after this date..

Majors

  • Accounting (B.S.) — A.A. in Accounting or B.A. in Liberal Arts with a concentration in Accounting required; Baccalaureate Core Curriculum Requirements and Bachelor of Science Core Curriculum Requirements met; GPA of 3.0 or higher; and completion of at least one course from each area: Business/Economics, Literature/Culture, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences (including Statistics).
  • Child Development & Education (Bachelor’s) — A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4-point scale is required for admission into all undergraduate programs at SUNY Cortland; completion of all core curriculum requirements with a grade point average of no less than 2.25 on a 4-point scale overall; an overall minimum score of 20th percentile on the ACT assessment exam or an 1150 combined score on the SAT assessment exam (old version), or 23rd percentile based on Math Section only OR 70th percentile based on Writing Section only AND three letters of recommendation sent directly to Child Development & Education Department Chairperson who will evaluate each student’s application packet for admission consideration for fall semester entry dates.* Information Technology Management— A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5* Music Industry Studies— A minimum cumulative GPA from high school graduation onward without regard to any remedial courses taken after high school graduation must be at least 2.5.* Recreation Management— Minimum cumulative GPA is 2.5
