The cost of attendance (COA) is the estimated full price to attend an institution for one academic year. It includes tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies, transportation costs, personal expenses and other miscellaneous expenses. The COA does not include costs related to travel or off-campus employment.
Room and board amounts are based on a full academic year at the time of publication. In addition to direct costs, students should budget for books and supplies, transportation and personal expenses.

The cost of attendance is a budget that represents your expenses while attending the University of Houston. The COA includes the costs you are responsible for paying to attend college, such as tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies, personal expenses, transportation and loan fees.
The COA is based on a full academic year — fall, spring and summer terms — not just one term or one semester. Your COA also depends upon how many hours you take each term/semester:
1-4 credit hours – $11,715 (includes fees)
5-8 credit hours – $13,715 (includes fees)
9+ credit hours – $14,715 (includes fees)
$16,527
- Room and Board: $16,527
- Room and Board is a combination of housing and food costs for students living on campus. It’s based on a full academic year at the time of publication. Students should budget for books and supplies, transportation, personal expenses (phone service) and other costs as needed.
Commuter
Commuter students are not required to live on campus, and they typically don’t. If you’re a commuter student, you’re exempt from paying room/board costs. This means that your tuition at the University of Houston will be your only expense.
However, if you do want to eat meals while on campus (which many students do), then you’ll need to purchase a meal plan with one of UH’s dining facilities. Meal plans range from $1,650-$2,450 per semester for 16-19 meals per week and can be paid for in advance or through monthly installments at a later time.

Your COA includes direct costs, such as tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies; indirect costs like transportation expenses or personal expenses; and other educational expenses such as off campus health insurance premiums.
