Cyprus International University (CIU) was established in 1997. It is the first foundation university of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Having a history of over 20 years, CIU has become an international educational institution that is accredited by the Council of Higher Education of Turkey and registered in the United Kingdom. With its leading faculty, highly equipped campuses, and modern technological infrastructure, CIU offers a high-quality education at all levels from foundation to postgraduate studies.

CIU is a member of the European University Association and British Council IELTS Partnership Programme, which makes it eligible for Erasmus+ programs. The university welcomes students from all over the world with its multicultural environment where there are students from more than 80 countries studying on campus together with local students from North Cyprus.

Over the course of its existence as an educational institution, CIU has gained extensive experience in both domestic and international education. As such, it has become one of the most globally recognized universities for its academic excellence.

In order to compete with schools across Europe and around the world, CIU had to create a modern campus that was conducive to learning and research. The school turned to Turkey-based HOK Architects—a firm known for its commitment to sustainable design—to create their ideal campus environment. The result was a state-of-the-art building that reflects key elements of Northern Cyprus’ culture while addressing students’ needs at every turn.

CIU offers globally recognised degrees, verified by its membership of the International Association of Universities (IAU) and the European University Association (EUA). Effective from this year, CIU became a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) which will add further prestige to its qualifications. The university is also a member of the British Council Teaching Excellence Framework and has been accredited by numerous other bodies.

ciu gives its students the opportunity to broaden their horizons by studying abroad within our extensive network of partner universities across europe, north america and asia.

CIU offers students the opportunity to broaden their horizons by studying abroad at [one of our partner universities](https://ciu.edu.tr/study-abroad) for one or two semesters, enabling them to experience life and culture in a foreign country. The student is able to get credit transfer for the courses he/she takes abroad and upon return to CIU can continue with the semester where they left off.
