We’re excited to offer a new course for dental hygiene students, “Dental Hygiene: The Basics and Beyond,” at the Toronto College of Dental Hygiene. This is a single-term course that focuses on the basic principles of dental hygiene and beyond—everything from breath-freshening techniques to proper patient care. Course content includes learning about both the oral and gingival tissues, as well as how they affect your patient’s health.

The course also focuses on applied anatomy, including how different diseases can manifest in the mouth and recognizing potential signs of oral infections before it becomes an issue. The final objective is to increase students’ confidence in providing a top-notch level of care by understanding each step in their practice plan.

The dental hygienist’s education consists of three years of full-time study at an accredited college or university. You will be exposed to clinical practice at the university’s on campus dental clinic where you will be supervised by qualified faculty members while working with patients who have been referred through the Calgary community clinics or other sources.
