Nurses who want to practice in Florida must obtain a license from the Board of Nursing. The board administers the licensure process and establishes standards for safe nursing practice. Florida Board of Nursing license renewal is required every two years. You must complete continuing education credits and pay a renewal fee before your license expires.

You must submit an application form to the Florida Board of Nursing, along with payment for the renewal fee ($75), if you wish to continue practicing as a nurse in California at the end of your current certificate or license period. If you fail to renew your certificate or license on time, it will automatically expire and cannot be renewed retroactively.

3 Who needs a nursing license in Florida?

All nurses need to have a Florida nursing license in order to practice nursing in the state. This includes all RNs and LPNs, as well as APRNs (advanced practice registered nurses). This also applies to nurses who have just graduated from a nursing program, are returning after taking a break from their career, or moving from another state into Florida.

• A nursing diploma program at an accredited school or college.
• An associate degree program at an accredited school or college.
• A certificate program at an accredited school or college (including Nurse Practitioner Certificate) that includes clinical experience requirements determined by the Board.* If you do not have any of these degrees or certificates, but want to work as a registered professional nurse (RN) in Florida without attending further schooling, you can apply for RN licensure under Provisional Practical Training.* You may also be eligible for temporary licenses through either Expedited Temporary Licensure or Military Service License Exemption.* All applicants will need proof of high school graduation and passing scores on their GED exam if applicable prior to being issued a temporary license.* If you’ve previously held an active Florida RN License with no disciplinary action against it within five years from now then this does not apply – contact us directly about reactivating your current status!

5 Attend a state approved school of nursing that offers either an associate degree program or nursing diploma program
