Florida Institute of Technology

Florida Institute of Technology is a private, not-for-profit university located in Melbourne, Florida.

The school was founded in 1958 as Brevard Engineering College and became the Florida Institute of Technology in 1989. It is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and offers more than 80 undergraduate majors at its Melbourne campus with several master’s programs available in other areas throughout Florida.

University of Miami

The University of Miami is a private research university in Coral Gables, Florida. Founded in 1925 as a branch campus of the University of Florida and currently known for its academic excellence, it has over 450 study abroad programs at locations around the world and offers a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate degrees.

The school’s “schools within a school” structure includes:

The University of West Florida is located in Pensacola, Florida. It is a public university and offers a Bachelor of Science in Marine Science and a Master of Science in Marine Science.

New College of Florida

New College of Florida

New College of Florida, located in Sarasota, offers a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology and a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology (Biology Emphasis). Both programs are designed to prepare students to enter the workforce after graduation. The bachelor’s degree program requires 120 credit hours and includes general education requirements as well as major coursework. Students will take classes such as Evolutionary Biology, Conservation Biology and Environment: Issues & Solutions. The biology emphasis requires more than the minimum number of credits required for the bachelor’s degree program; however, it does not offer an additional emphasis on marine biology (it just has a few extra courses).

Miami Dade College

Miami Dade College (MDC) has a marine biology program, as well as an aquaculture and fisheries science program. It also offers a marine science program and a marine science technology program. The latter two programs are offered at one of MDC’s campuses located in the Florida Keys, which has its own research station open to students for study purposes year-round.

In addition to these courses, MDC also offers other marine studies courses such as “Marine Biology,” “Oceanography,” “Mollusks: The Chemistry of Shells,” and more!

Broward College

Broward College offers a marine biology program. The program is offered through the biology department and is a two-year associate’s degree. It’s not available online, but there are campuses located in Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, Miramar and Pembroke Pines.

The marine biology program does not offer bachelor’s degrees; however, it does offer a minor in marine biology to students who complete the required coursework.

Indian River State College

Indian River State College

Indian River State College is one of the best colleges in Florida that offers marine biology courses. It’s also one of the most affordable, with tuition starting at $6,740 per year. The college provides students with a wide variety of degrees and certificates, including:

• Associate degrees in liberal arts and sciences
• Certificates in business administration (Criminal Justice)

Offers a marine biology major.

University of Miami

Offers an undergraduate degree in marine biology, with options for specialization in coral reef ecology or coastal and estuarine ecology. Students can also choose to minor in the subject.

The University of West Florida (Pensacola)

Offers a bachelor’s degree program in marine biology at its branch campus in Pensacola, where students can choose from several areas of concentration including: fisheries science; oceanography; environmental science; aquatic toxicology and ecotoxicology; global change biology; habitat restoration ecology; animal behavior studies; biodiversity conservation strategies for marine ecosystems; coral reef ecosystems research project coursework; interdisciplinary research project courses within various natural sciences disciplines such as zoology or chemistry (varies by semester); internships with local agencies like NOAA Fisheries Service’s Office for Protected Resources or Scripps Institution Oceanographic Research Center – Florida Keys Program (SIROFCK).
