Michigan Stadium has a current seating capacity of 107,601 (surpassed only by Rungrado 1st of May Stadium in North Korea), but its all-time record attendance was 115,109 for a game against Ohio State University on September 10th 2004.

The Big House is also known as “The House That Bo Built” because it was funded largely by former Michigan basketball coach Bo Schembechler who donated $1 million towards its construction.

The Original Name For The University Of Michigan Was Catholepistemiad.

You may know the University of Michigan by its modern nickname, The Wolverines, but did you know that it was originally known as Catholepistemiad?

In 1817, when the university was founded by “the territorial government of Michigan Territory and organized by an act of Congress” (according to their official website), they were called Catholepistemiad. This translates to “head of the lake university” in Greek. It is unclear why they chose this name at first; some have speculated that it refers to the school’s location on a peninsula, while others think that because Michigan is surrounded by water on three sides (Lake Huron, Lake Erie and Lake Superior), it makes sense for them to be named after one of those bodies of water—Lake Michigan being the most obvious choice if we’re talking about which body surrounds us here in Ann Arbor!

Unfortunately for us all though…it wasn’t meant to last! In 1837 Ohio University changed its name from Miami University due to some confusion over whether or not there were two schools with similar names within 100 miles from each other—and thus began our journey towards being known as The Wolverines instead!

• Theodor Mommsen (1851–1913), German historian and politician, taught at the University of Michigan from 1854 to 1865. His lectures on Roman constitutional law were so well received that they were published in book form. He later won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1902.
• Max Planck (1858–1947), German physicist who formulated a quantum theory for radiation, taught at the University of Michigan from 1892 until his death in 1947; during this time he also served as an administrator at the university and took part in several expeditions to Africa with his wife Marie Curie, who would go on to win two Nobel Prizes herself: one for physics and one for chemistry.
