Kumasi Technical University Admission Requirements for 2019/2020 Academic Year.
The Kumasi Technical University (KNUST) was established in the year 1952 as a tertiary institution. The university is located in Kumasi, Ghana. The university offers programs at all levels of education from basic level to postgraduate levels.
Currently, KNUST has a student population of about 20,000 students with a full-time academic staff strength numbering over 1000 and close to 650 non-academic staff(that includes administration and other technical staff).
KNUST has been recognized as one of the best universities in Ghana.
A Level (WASSCE, GBCE, ABCE, SSSCE & A’ Levels) – Applicants must have credit passes in at least five subjects including English and Mathematics.
Applicants must have at least Credit Passes in five subjects including English and Mathematics. These subjects should be related to the programme you are applying for. Please note that for a course like Medicine, you will be required to have an A1 or B2 in Chemistry and Biology.
The five passes may be from any of the following:
- WASSCE(WAEC)
- GBCE (GBA)
- ABCE (NABTEB)
- SSSCE (WASSCE)
A’ Levels
Technical/Vocational Applicants – Applicants must have passed well at their respective areas of specialization in addition to having a minimum of a pass in five subjects including English and Mathematics.

Degree Programmes – Applicants are required to have obtained a good first degree from a recognized university with a minimum GPA of 3.00 on a 5-point scale or 2nd Class Lower Division.

Those with candidates with 2nd Class Upper Division (2.1) may be considered for higher degree programmes if they show exceptional research and/or relevant industrial experience as dictated by their chosen field of study. Candidates with lower qualifications may also be considered based on their work experience and other relevant professional qualifications.

Postgraduate Diploma and Master’s Degree Programs – Applicants are required to have obtained relevant degrees from a recognized university with at least a Second Class Lower Division. In addition, applicants will be expected to meet the specific requirements of individual programmes as stated in the KAUST Graduate Programs Admissions Handbook.

The University does not admit applicants who do not meet its entrance requirements, however, admission is very competitive and the University reserves the right to accept or reject any applicant.
- One of the following:
- WASSCE with a minimum of 6 credits including English Language, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science in one sitting (not more than two sittings). Applicants must also pass three Elective subjects relevant to their area of study; OR
- GBCE/ABCE with at least A1-C6 or A-D in six subjects including English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science; OR
- SSSCE Applicants must have grade D or better in three Core Subjects: English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science plus credit passes (A – D) in three elective subjects relevant to their area of study.
