Almost every medical specialty offers physical therapy as a component of care, and the aging population means more people are likely to need it. To become a physical therapist, you will need to earn your degree from an accredited program and pass the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE). Andrews University
Andrews University is a private, coeducational, liberal arts university located in Berrien Springs, Michigan. The university is affiliated with the Seventh-day Adventist Church and offers a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy as well as a Master of Science in Physical Therapy.
Arizona State University
Arizona State University offers a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. The program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE), and it’s ranked #1 in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.
Boston University & Northeastern University
Boston University and Northeastern University are both private universities that are located in Boston, Massachusetts. With a student population of over 30,000 undergraduate students at BU and nearly 8,000 at Northeastern, these schools offer a wide range of options for their students.
Both institutions are highly ranked by US News & World Report with BU coming in at number 56 on their list of best national universities and Northeastern coming in at number 96 on the same list. Both schools feature strong reputations for research, so if you’re interested in working toward your PhD after completing your DPT program then either school would be an excellent choice for you.
Both schools also have excellent physical therapy programs; according to data collected by UVA Health System Profiles (see link below), approximately 70% of graduates from both schools pass their licensure exam on the first attempt compared with only 40% across all other training programs nationwide!
California State University Fresno
CSU Fresno offers a Doctor of Physical Therapy program that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education. The program began in fall 2017, and it is offered at both CSU Fresno’s San Jose and Fresno campuses. The length of this program is four years, but students may apply for early admission into the second year if they are eligible.
The university has multiple ways to enroll, including a hybrid format that incorporates online learning with clinical rotations in class-based learning environments.
Columbia
The School of Nursing at Columbia University offers a combined bachelor’s and master of public health (MPH) degree in nursing and physical therapy. The program integrates coursework from both schools, with emphasis on research, policy and evidence-based practice. The curriculum includes courses in physiology, biomechanics, clinical skills development and more.
The School of Nursing also offers a combined bachelor’s/master’s degree option for those who wish to earn their bachelor’s degree in nursing before advancing to a graduate program. The curriculum includes instruction in patient assessment through hands-on learning experiences with real patients; students will learn how to identify signs and symptoms related to various conditions as well as proper treatment methods.
Creighton University
For those who want to get their physical therapy degree in Nebraska, Creighton University is a great choice. Located in Omaha, this private university offers a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program and has been doing so since 1976. This Jesuit university was founded by Archbishop Edward Fitzgerald and named after Bishop James O’Reilly. It has an undergraduate population of 4,842 students and boasts many research centers, including the Center for Community Health Research & Development and the Mayo Clinic Physician Assistant Program. The university also has a strong emphasis on community service—it recently launched a new initiative called “Hands On Healthcare” that encourages students to volunteer at local hospitals or clinics as part of their curriculum requirements.
Daemen College
Daemen College is located in Buffalo, New York. It has a 4-year program, 2-year program, part-time program and online program. Students can earn a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree at Daemen College. Students can also earn a doctorate degree or certificate program at Daemen College. Graduate students have the option to participate in the graduate certificate program offered by this school as well.
Drexel University
Drexel University is a private research university with a main campus located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. Drexel is ranked as the seventh-best university in the United States for providing resources to undergraduates and fifth-best among private schools by Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine.
Drexel University is a “Doctoral/Research University” with “High Research Activity” in the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. The university has almost 50 undergraduate majors, 56 graduate programs and 100 doctoral programs.[2] It is considered an ‘R1’ research institution by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.[3][4] In 2018 it was ranked #1 overall among top public universities in the U.S., according to Forbes magazine.[5]
