Main Components Of A Computer
Main Components Of A Computer
A computer is a device that can perform many tasks, including word processing, data management and calculation. It consists of several different components. Some of these components include the keyboard, mouse, monitor/display (the part you see), printer and CPU (Central Processing Unit).
Keyboard
A keyboard is used to enter text and commands into the computer. A keyboard is also used to control the mouse, which in turn allows you to move around on the screen. A keyboard can also control other things such as printers and monitors if installed properly, but with most desktop computers these are attached directly to the motherboard so your keyboard will not be able to control them.
The most important thing that a good quality keyboard needs is feedback when pressed down on each key; this lets you know that your keystroke has registered with your computer and allows for precise typing at high speeds without worrying about missing keys or doing extra unnecessary work by hitting them too hard (or not hard enough).
Mouse
A mouse is a pointing device that allows you to move the cursor on your computer screen. A mouse can be used to select items on your computer screen, as well as to drag and drop different objects on your computer (for example, moving files from one folder to another).
Mouse buttons may have different functions depending on what program you’re running at the time. For example, in Word, clicking the left button selects text while pressing it displays a menu of options for editing or formatting text; pressing both buttons together copies highlighted information; pressing them again pastes it into the document where you want it applied; dragging with both buttons held down moves something from place-to-place (say an image file); and so forth. You’ll find out how these features work when we get into using Word later in this tutorial series!
Monitor/Display
A monitor or display is the part of your computer most visible to you. It’s where all the information is displayed and can be seen.
The monitor or display also gives us our visual representation, which makes it possible for us to interact with our machines and use them easily.
Printer
A printer is a peripheral device that produces a hard copy of a computer file. Printers are connected to the computer using either a USB cable, parallel cable or wireless connection depending on the model and manufacturer. A USB cable has been standardized for use with printers and many other devices such as flash drives and external hard drives. Parallel cables have traditionally been used to connect printers but have largely fallen out of favor due to their large size and lack of compatibility with most modern computers.
Printers can be connected directly to your computer or they may be part of an all-in-one printer/scanner/copier machine which includes multiple components in one unit. The direct connection allows you greater flexibility when selecting which printer best fits your needs while having one unit do many tasks saves space on your desk at home or at work because it only takes up one outlet instead of needing three separate outlets (two for power plus one for USB).
CPU
The CPU, or central processing unit, is the brain of the computer. It’s what makes it run and controls everything from loading programs to performing basic math functions. The CPU is one of the most important components of a computer because without it, you can’t do anything on your PC.
The CPU has two main parts: an arithmetic logic unit (ALU) and control circuits for memory and input/output devices. The ALU performs arithmetic and logical operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. It also executes commands sent from other parts of the system such as input/output devices or external memory chips called RAM (random access memory).
Memory
Memory is a component of the computer that stores data and programs. The main types of memory are:
- RAM (Random-Access Memory) – This is where the operating system and all running programs temporarily store their data. When you turn off your PC, all the information stored in RAM disappears.
- ROM (Read-Only Memory) – This type of memory can only be read from, not written to. It contains instructions for starting up your PC when it’s turned on or restarted and some diagnostic software used by technicians at repair centers to troubleshoot problems with computers.
Hard Drive
Hard drive: The hard drive is where all your data is stored, and it’s the slowest component in a computer. It is also the most expensive, heaviest, and largest component inside of a personal computer (PC). It’s important to remember that if you add more RAM to your PC, you increase the speed at which it can process information. However, even with an unlimited amount of RAM you still can’t beat the speed at which data travels from one location to another inside of a hard drive – which means no matter how much money or effort you spend trying to improve performance by upgrading other parts of your machine: The best way to increase its speed will always be by upgrading its hard drive instead!
A computer can have several components.
A computer can have several components. The most common ones are:
- Keyboard: This is the part of your computer that lets you type information into it, such as letters and numbers.
- Mouse: You use the mouse to move around on screen, click things and make selections.
- Monitor: Your monitor displays what is happening inside your computer or tablet in real time and shows what others see when they view your screen over the internet (i.e., when someone visits a website that you’re looking at).
A computer can have several components. Each of these components serves a different purpose and has its own features. For example, the keyboard helps you enter data into your computer and it allows you to use special keys such as Ctrl + Shift + Alt + Delete or Esc key for exiting programs. You need a mouse to move around on the screen and click on items that interest you. The monitor displays everything so that we can see it clearly without straining our eyesight too much when working long hours at home or office.
