nijmegen

The oldest city of the Netherlands and the only Dutch city with a real university. Nijmegen is also one of the greenest cities in the Netherlands, so you can just walk around and feel at home here. The centre of Nijmegen has two areas; it is divided by the river Waal.

There are many parks to take a walk through or have a picnic when studying for an exam. One place you shouldn’t miss is Valkhof Park, which used to be an old city castle, but now it’s a public park where festivals are held during summertime (so stay tuned!). And if that’s not enough, you can always watch American football in the largest stadium of the Netherlands (that’s right; we’ve got that too).

utrecht

Utrecht is one of the largest cities in the Netherlands, with a population of 345,080 people. The city has a rich history and houses many important cultural institutions such as the Utrecht School of the Arts, the Netherlands Film Academy and museums such as Centraal Museum and Museum Speelklok. Utrecht is also home to several universities including Utrecht University, which is ranked 53rd worldwide by QS Rankings in 2019.

Located just 35 minutes from Amsterdam by train, you can easily access other Dutch cities during your spare time or on a study trip. If you’d rather explore your local surroundings however, there are still plenty of things to do in Utrecht itself; you can spend your days shopping at Janskerkhof or visit Haarzuilens Castle for peace and quiet!

rotterdam

Rotterdam has a long history and an interesting past, but it has always been one of the most important ports in Europe. It is now the largest port in Europe and the second largest port in the world. That’s why Rotterdam is known for harbor work, shipping and logistics. But we should not forget that Rotterdam was also once a center for shipbuilding, steel industry, petrochemicals and agriculture.

Rotterdam still has a large harbor area with many ports, large ships, containers and box-shaped buildings; however it is hard to imagine what life was like on this spot years ago. Few people lived here at that time because it was largely marshland surrounded by polders. The main city itself was located on the peninsula between the Rhine and Meuse rivers: modern day Dordrecht.

amsterdam

The capital of the Netherlands, Amsterdam is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. The city centre is full of history, culture and architecture. Amsterdam is a great place to live with an excellent public transport system!

Amsterdam has a lively cultural scene and it’s full of museums. The Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum and Stedelijk Museum are wonderful for art lovers. Of course you can enjoy all kinds of cultural events: theatre, music concerts and operas.

In addition to being a vibrant city, Amsterdam also offers an abundance of green areas that make it easy to relax from the busy life in the metropolis!
