It can be very competitive to gain entry into European medical schools. In order to succeed, you need to have certain qualities and qualifications. These include:

• Highly qualified
• Strong academic record
• Able to handle the workload
• Right personality/behavior
• Strong interest in medicine

European Medical Schools in English

Before we delve into our list of European medical schools that teach in English, let’s first discuss whether or not you qualify to apply to them.

To apply to any medical school within Europe, you need to fulfill these three requirements:

• Have a minimum of 5 years of secondary education
• Be able to prove proficiency in the language in which classes are taught
• Have passed an exam showing proficiency in math and science

Though you may be fluent in English and see no reason why you shouldn’t be admitted, graduating from a university that teaches classes only in your native language is not enough. You need proof that you can handle courses taught entirely in English, like TOEFL. This basically means that your degree should be taught completely or almost completely in English. If it isn’t, there is no way for the school to know if an applicant will be able to handle their program.

Charles University in Prague

Charles University offers three faculties (schools). There is a fourth faculty in Hradec Králové. The individual faculties have the right to set specific admission requirements and procedures and they can also determine the number of applicants they are ready to accept. Each applicant may apply to any number of faculties at once, using a common application form with standard deadlines.

University of Pecs

University of Pecs is one of the oldest medical schools in Europe. It is located in Hungary and it has been around for more than 500 years. In fact, the university is so old that Queen Elizabeth herself sent her son to school there.

University of Pecs is fully accredited, which means that the education you get there will be recognized anywhere in the world. The curriculum at University of Pecs is based on the US medical school curriculum and divided into basic sciences and clinical training. In addition to this, you will do a mandatory research project before you graduate.

The university also has its own teaching hospital as well as several affiliated hospitals where students go for their clinical rotations and practical training.

Medical School of Sofia

Sofia Medical University is a public university in Sofia, Bulgaria. It belongs to the oldest universities in Europe, dating back to 1917. There are many options to choose from when deciding on a medical school in Europe.

You must have a high school diploma or an undergraduate degree, but that is not all. For instance, to be admitted to medical school in Germany, you must pass the Test of Medical Studies Admission Test (TMSAT), which involves biology and chemistry testing based on your knowledge of German language. The test can be taken even if your native language is not German.

The Medical University of Graz in Austria requires you to have a qualifying exam or exam results. This includes an ACT or SAT score, or an equivalent test such as the TMSAT.

The requirements for admission to medical schools vary from one country to another and from one university to another. You should check with each school separately before applying.
