  • Dependents of MTA members are eligible for scholarships of up to $5,000 per year.

Each year, the MTA’s Scholarship Committee — a group of volunteers who review applications, interview applicants and make recommendations — gives out scholarships of up to $5,000 each. The committee awards the scholarship money based on several criteria including academic achievements and community service. The committee seeks out examples of how the applicant has made a difference in his or her community through actions that have benefited others, as well as what he or she has done to improve his or her school and/or neighborhood.

High school seniors and college students are eligible to apply.

Scholarships are available to the dependents of active members or retired members.

Dependents may be children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, or other relatives living with a member. Dependents must be under the age of 24 and must reside with the member for at least six months out of the year.

The deadline is May 1.

The deadline for students to apply for MTA scholarships is May 1.

Applicants must be either high school seniors or currently enrolled in an undergraduate program.
