The University of Near East (NEU) is an institution of higher learning with a main campus in the capital city of Lefkosa, and two other campuses in the cities of Famagusta and Gazimağusa. NEU was founded in 1988 with the aim of training school-leavers and young people who wish to develop themselves professionally.
Nursing is a popular and rewarding career option for many people, as it offers a great deal of flexibility with regard to hours worked, location and type of practice. The first year of the four-year programme focuses on general nursing knowledge and forms of practice (with particular emphasis on community settings), which will prepare students for initial registration. The second year builds upon this foundation with even more advanced topics such as the management of medical emergencies, critical thinking skills, pharmacology and other aspects of hospital life. In the third year, students attend clinical placements at various hospitals in Gaza or Turkey, prior to completing their final degree requirements in the fourth and final year.
The University has eleven faculties, one college, three schools, one conservatory and ten vocational schools offering specialised undergraduate and postgraduate programs as well as various professional courses. These courses are designed to give prospective students greater flexibility in terms of studying for either a complete degree or for specific modules.
At NEU, students have the ability to study for either a complete degree or specific modules that allow them to study a broad range of subjects including vocational degrees. These courses fall within the faculties, college, schools and conservatory. Today NEU hosts more than 14,000 students from all over the world. NEU provides a peaceful environment where students can get together and exchange ideas, knowledge and cultures. The University offers opportunities to gain academic degrees at undergraduate level in many fields including the basic sciences, social sciences, engineering, fine arts and sports sciences.
Near East University, is a private university located in North Nicosia, Northern Cyprus.NEU was founded in Nicosia in 1988 by Suat Günsel, a Turkish Cypriot who is the 100% owner of the university. NEU has three campuses, one on the main campus site close to the center of North Nicosia, one in Gazimağusa and one in Famagusta. NEU offers programs at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels within its 16 faculties. The Nursing Department is part of Near East University Health Sciences Faculty which comprises School of Medicine, School of Medicine Dentistry Department and Nursing Department.
The Nursing Department of Near East University was established in 2009. The department currently has over 500 students, and the number of faculty is 48. The department offers a four year program that trains students to become professional nurses who are qualified in providing healthcare services, teaching nursing and working in research units.
