The program offers payments based on income and family size for up to 60 months. You can apply for this program if you have an annual gross household income of less than $50,000 (or $40,000 if you file taxes together with your spouse). If you qualify for the program, Nelnet will send you a notification through mail letting you know when your first payment will be made.
The benefits of enrolling in the Payment Assistance Program include:
- No monthly payments until after graduation (if applicable)
- Reduced monthly payment amount based on eligibility requirements
- Ability to have certain debts forgiven after 10 years of full-time employment
Auto Debit Program

To cancel enrollment or to check the status of your enrollment, log into your account and select “Enrollment Status.” You can also change how much you are debited each month by accessing this page, then clicking “Update Amount.”
If you stop paying through automatic debits because you no longer want to participate in this program, contact Nelnet at 800-559-7828 (TTY: 711) or email customer support at firstname.lastname@example.org
