The AACN Certification Corporation is a nonprofit organization that provides certification for nurses in the United States. It is a member of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN).
The mission statement of this organization is to promote excellence in nursing practice through evidence-based decision making, accreditation, and certification. Their vision statement is to be the leading national non-profit organization providing quality education programs for professional advancement and lifelong learning.
2 AANP Certification Program
The AANP certification is the gold standard in nursing. It is recognized as the most widely recognized in the field of case management, and it’s also one of the most rigorous and demanding certifications available.
If you want to be an AANP-certified nurse case manager, you’ll need to:
- Complete a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited program
- Pass all three parts of the certification exam
3 Accreditation Board for Specialty Nursing Certification
The Accreditation Board for Specialty Nursing Certification (ABNS) is the only organization that offers specialty certification for nurses in case management.

AAACN also offers two professional certification programs: Certified Ambulatory Care Registered Nurse (CRCRN) and Certified Clinical Case Manager (CCMC).

5 American Academy of Nurse Practitioners National Certification Board (AANPCB)
The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners National Certification Board (AANPCB), also known as the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board, is a non-profit organization that promotes nursing excellence and professional development.
The AANPCB offers certification for nurse practitioners in case management and several subspecialties within it. The board’s primary goal is to improve the quality of care given by nurse practitioners; it does this through developing standards for health care delivery, through promoting education and research, and through establishing certification standards for nurse practitioners who work with patients across all settings.
Nurse practitioners who have earned their certifications through the AANPCB can use these credentials while they are working towards earning their master’s degrees in case management or another related field at one of many accredited universities around the country.
6 American Association of Critical-Care Nurses Certification Corporation
The AACN Certification Corporation is a nonprofit organization founded in 1983 to develop and administer an advanced practice certification program for nurses. Its three main certification programs are nurse anesthesia, critical care and pulmonary care.
The goal of AACN’s certification program is to establish, define and elevate the nursing profession through recognition of excellence in the delivery of healthcare services. Candidates must pass a series of exams on their knowledge base, skills and experience in order for their application for certification to be considered complete by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN).
7 American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants

The American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants (AALNC) offers the only national certification program for nurses who want to work as legal nurse consultants and advocates. 9 American Board for Occupational Health Nurses, Inc. (ABOHN)
The American Board for Occupational Health Nurses, Inc. (ABOHN) is a national certifying body for nurses who specialize in occupational health nursing. They are the only certifying body for occupational health nurses and the only certifying body for nurses who specialize in occupational health nursing.
10 American Board of Cardiovascular Medicine (ABCM) – Cardiology Credentialing International, Inc.
The American Board of Cardiovascular Medicine (ABCM) is a non-profit organization that certifies cardiovascular technicians and technologists. The ABCM is the only organization that certifies cardiovascular technicians, making it a highly respected credentialing body for anyone working in this field.
The ABCM Credentialing International, Inc., or PCI, was founded as a result of an agreement between the American Board of Cardiovascular Medicine and the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). In 1996, PCI began administering the Certified Cardiovascular Technician exam to PAs who wanted to become certified in an area related to cardiology procedures.
In 2007, PCI expanded its scope by offering certification exams specifically designed for paramedics and respiratory therapists interested in becoming certified in advanced life support (ALS) skills including EKGs and cardiac monitoring equipment such as defibrillators and pacemakers
11 American Board of Echocardiography (ABE) and the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC)
The American Board of Echocardiography (ABE) and the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) are both certifying bodies for echocardiographers. The IAC is an independent, non-profit organization that accredits certification programs in a variety of healthcare fields such as nursing and medicine, among others. The IAC is known for being highly selective with its memberships but this doesn’t mean that you can’t become a member after passing their accreditation exam requirements.
