The Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW) will award scholarships to international students from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) through the Holland Scholarship program.

The scholarship will be offered to outstanding students from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) who want to do their bachelor’s or master’s in Holland. The Holland Scholarship is financed by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and Dutch research universities and universities of applied sciences.

To be eligible for this scholarship:

  • You must meet the admission requirements for a full-time English-taught bachelor’s or master’s degree programme at one of the participating Dutch higher education institutions.
  • You are not eligible for this scholarship if you are a national of (or residence permit holder) one of the countries within the European Economic Area (EEA).

This scholarship is not available for students from countries within the European Economic Area (the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway).

You’re eligible for this scholarship if you:

  • are a student from one of the countries on the OKP country list;
  • expect to graduate within a year prior to the application deadline, or graduated no more than two years before 1 September 2022;
  • are a person who has been admitted, or has applied for admission, to one of the Master’s programmes at Leiden University in the academic year 2022-2023. If you haven’t applied for admission yet, please do so as soon as possible. If you have been admitted to start in February 2023, you will receive your status letter dated February 2022. Please forward it to your contact person at Leiden University when requested after submitting your application;
  • have excellent study results and sufficient proficiency in English (IELTS 6.5+ with no subtest below 5.5+ or TOEFL 90+ with no subtest lower than 21);
  • have not received any other scholarship for study in The Netherlands in the academic year 2022-2023;
  • meet all other requirements specified by Nuffic. For example: candidates must be able to cover their living expenses during their stay in The Netherlands; they must be eligible for visas and residence permits set by Dutch immigration authorities.

Students must be enrolled at a Dutch university or university of applied sciences in an English-taught Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD programme.

  • You must meet the English language requirements of the host institution.
  • You have been unconditionally admitted to a participating Dutch higher education institution.

A Holland Scholarship can only be used for an Incoming Exchange.

A Holland Scholarship can only be used for an Incoming Exchange. This means:

  • You want to spend part of your bachelor’s or master’s programme in the Netherlands;
  • Your home university has a partnership with Leiden University, Delft University of Technology, Erasmus University Rotterdam, Wageningen University & Research or TU/e;
  • You pay tuition fees at your home university and you are not eligible for a study grant at the Dutch national agency.

The application is open for one of the following degree programs in a participating Netherlands university: Bachelor’s Programmes Master’s Programmes Ph.D. Programmes.

The Holland Scholarship is meant for international students from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) who want to do their bachelor’s or master’s in Holland. With this scholarship, the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science offers 50 scholarships per year.

You can apply for a Holland Scholarship if: you have been admitted to one of these participating Dutch higher education institutions; you have a non-EEA nationality and do not have a permanent residence permit in the Netherlands; you are not eligible for support under the study financing system (Studiefinanciering).
