Duration of the Award

Students who receive the scholarship must remain enrolled at Drake as a full-time student for the entire academic year (fall, spring and winter terms) each year in order to maintain eligibility. This includes study abroad programs that are operated by Drake University; however, students who take leave from Drake University may not receive the Presidential Scholarship while they are away from campus. Students who take leaves of absence during their freshman year may apply for reconsideration once readmitted, but there is no guarantee of renewal if you are absent longer than one semester (excluding summer). After any absence, students must meet all criteria listed above in order to be eligible for the award upon return.

The Presidential Scholarship covers eight consecutive semesters of undergraduate enrollment at Drake University. Students who leave Drake for any period of time lose their scholarship and must reapply for admission. They are not guaranteed readmission to Drake or readmission on another scholarship beyond the standard merit scholarships offered to all admitted freshmen. Students are strongly advised not to take a semester off from Drake University during their four years of study. Withdrawing from all classes during any semester counts as a leave of absence, and students would be required to reapply for admission. Requests for exceptions may be made in writing to the Associate Provost for Enrollment Management prior to taking time off from Drake.
