Printing University Of Sheffield
Printing from your own laptop
- Go to http://www.sheffield.ac.uk/it/printing-and-copying/selfserviceprinting
- Enter your university username and password (you’ll need to be logged into the University’s network first). You’ll then see a list of printers available and their locations on campus, as well as the costs for printing each page or document type.
- Choose which printer you want to use, select the number of copies, enter any special instructions (such as single-sided only) then click ‘next’ at the bottom of that screen; after this point you can’t change anything so make sure everything is correct before continuing! Then simply press ‘Print’ on your computer screen and wait for it to come out; if there are mistakes just reprint again until no errors appear 🙂
How to print on campus
- To print from a computer, you need to be on the University’s campus network.
- You also need to be logged in to the network with a valid University ID (this can be done via your desktop or laptop).
- Finally, you need to have a printer selected in your web browser. This is usually done by clicking on a print icon within an application like Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat Reader.
- When prompted for a location for your print job, choose one of our printers (typically named ‘Nottingham’ or ‘Sheffield’). If you’re printing from Nottingham University’s site and want it sent straight over here then select ‘Nottingham > Sheffield’.
Printing from your own laptop
To print from your own laptop, follow these steps:
- Plug in your network cable and connect to the University of Sheffield network.
- Navigate to the website https://print.sheff.ac.uk/ from a web browser on your laptop (you can’t use this link from mobile devices or tablets). This will open a window with options for printing—you’ll want to choose “Personal Printer” if it’s an option.
- You’ll then see a list of printers available; select one that’s listed as “Available” and no password required (this means that you won’t need to enter any credentials). If there aren’t any printers listed or you’re unable to authenticate yourself, contact IT Services at [email protected]

Printing from a PC in the iMac Suite (Information Commons)
There are two printers available for you to use in the iMac Suite (Information Commons). The black and white printer is located on the right hand side of the room, while the colour printer is located on your left. Both printers have a small screen that you can use to print documents. You will need to swipe your student ID card in order to print, but only once per day. We recommend using this option because it’s cheaper than printing from your own computer or mobile device.
