The University of North Carolina at Charlotte, also known as UNC Charlotte, is a public research university located in Charlotte, North Carolina, United States. Founded in 1965 as a campus of the University of North Carolina system, UNC Charlotte has grown to be one of the largest universities in the United States with over 33,000 students and 2,300 faculty members.

Introduction

The University is situated in Charlotte, North Carolina. It was established in 1857 and it is a co-educational university. The main campus of the university is situated at Queens University Of Charlotte North Carolina, with various other off-campus sites spread throughout the city. With an enrollment of more than 16000 students, it was ranked as one of the top public universities in America by U.S News & World Report’s 2018 edition of Best Colleges.

The College Of Arts And Sciences and The School Of Business Administration offer Bachelor’s degrees in various fields such as biology, business administration etc., while the College Of Engineering has departments for mechanical engineering, civil engineering etc., which offer Bachelor’s degrees in those disciplines as well as Master’s programs in Civil Engineering (MCE), Mechanical Engineering (MME) etc..

History

Queen’s University of Charlotte has a rich history that began in 1857 as The Charlotte Female Institute. A school for young women, it was founded by the North Carolina Conference of the Methodist Church.

The school became coeducational in 1972, and then renamed itself to Queen’s University of Charlotte (Queens) after receiving approval from its Board of Trustees. The name change was made to honor Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz who had been born in England on May 19th 1744, married King George III of Great Britain and died April 8th 1818 at age 73. She was known as “The Mother-in-Law Of Nations” because she gave birth not only to ten children but also fifty grandchildren!
