Ramanujan Fellowships are offered by the Department of Science and Technology. The fellowships are meant to provide financial support to top-notch scientists who have a good academic record and wish to engage themselves in research activities.

Those candidates who wish to avail those fellowships must apply for them. Here, we have provided some important details regarding Ramanujan Fellowship 2020, including eligibility criteria, application form, selection process and more.

Eligibility Criteria

The fellowship worth is Rs. 55,000 per month for five years.

As stated in the official brochure, “The Fellowship worth is Rs. 55,000 per month for five years. The fellowship can be extended to a maximum of five years depending on the performance of the Fellow.” It is important to note that this fellowship can not be renewed.

DST may increase the fellowship value to Rs. 70,000 for extraordinary performers under this scheme.

• The decision of the Department would be final in this regard and no correspondence will be entertained in this matter.
• Extraordinary performers will also be eligible for additional benefits such as the grant of a contingency grant, access to research infrastructure including computing facilities at different nodal institutes/laboratories etc.

An annual contingency grant of Rs. 2 lakhs per year without any restrictions on usage will also be given to the fellow under this scheme.

The project grant proposed by the host institution will be considered for funding under this scheme. In addition, a research grant of Rs. 20,000/- per month (consolidated), if not being paid by the host institute, would be paid by DST to the Fellow and a house rent allowance (HRA) of Rs. 24,000/- p.m., whenever applicable as per government norms, would also be provided to the fellow.

The travel grant up to Rs. 75,000/- per year will also be given to the fellows under this scheme.

This may also be utilized for study tours, etc. The travel grant is not meant for personal expenditure like purchase of laptop, cameras etc.(however, a personal computer can be purchased by the Fellow from his/her own fellowship), medical expenses and family travels or any other expenditure not related to research. The travel grant will not be available for doing part of research outside the country or studying abroad
