Undergraduate applicants to the University of Hawaii at Mānoa must satisfy the following requirements for admission. The Office of Admissions may request additional information and supporting documents from prospective students as necessary.

Freshman Admission Requirements
The University of Hawaii at Manoa has a minimum GPA and SAT/ACT requirements that vary depending on the applicant’s high school class rank, coursework completed, and the number of courses taken each semester.
Minimum GPA: 2.5 – 3.0 (out of 4)
Minimum SAT/ACT Scores: 500 – 600 (out of 1600)
Subject Test Requirements: 2 Subject Tests required; only 1 may be waived if you have AP credit in a relevant subject area OR you will complete 15+ credits over 2 years with a 3 or better grade point average OR you are transferring from another college or university
Transfer Admission Requirements
Transfer students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale. In addition, they must have completed at least 12 transferable semester credits or 24 quarter credits with a minimum grade of C in each course.
Students who do not meet these requirements will be considered for admission as conditional or non-degree students and will be required to complete additional first-year coursework prior to being fully admitted into the university
International Admission Requirements
- International applicants must be at least 16 years old.
- International applicants must submit an official transcript with their application.
- International applicants must submit a certified copy of their high school diploma or equivalent (i.e., transcripts showing graduation from an approved international secondary school).
- International applicants who have completed a GED will also be required to submit evidence of successful completion, such as your certificate and/or test score reports.
Secondary School Reports
You will need to submit secondary school reports. This means official transcripts, diplomas and/or other documentation issued by the high school you attended.
If you have graduated from high school, but do not yet have your diploma in hand and are still waiting on it to be mailed to you, please submit an official letter or email from your guidance counselor stating that they have been notified of the date your diploma will be mailed out. If possible, submit a copy of this document as well.
Official Transcripts
- Transcripts must be sent directly from the institution.
- Transcripts must be sent in a sealed envelope.
- The official transcript should be a paper copy, not a digital version or PDF file of your transcript.
SAT or ACT Scores and Subject Tests
The University of Hawaii admission requirements for its four-year colleges include SAT or ACT scores, which must be sent to the university’s school code. Students can also submit subject tests to fulfill this requirement. These tests are not required for admission but may improve a student’s chances of getting into the school and receiving merit aid.
The SAT is offered at three levels: Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (formerly known as the New SAT), Math, and Writing & Language (optional essay). The ACT has two formats: regular and new. TOEFL/IELTS/PTE Academic Scores
TOEFL/IELTS/PTE Academic Scores are required for international students.
TOEFL or IELTS scores must be sent directly from the testing agency to UH Manoa.
The minimum score for TOEFL is 100 for the internet-based test (iBT). The minimum overall band score for IELTS is 6.5, with an individual band of at least 6 in each section of Writing, Speaking and Reading combined with an overall score of 7.0 or higher on all four sections combined
Supporting Documents for Financial Aid and Scholarships
Supporting documents are required for financial aid, scholarships and other types of assistance. Your supporting documents will be required at the time of admission and/or when completing a self-submission of your FAFSA form.
The following are some common examples that may be requested by schools:
- Financial statements (personal, business or tax returns)
- Bank statements (please include copies of any loan documents)
- W-2 forms/tax return summaries (if you’re employed)
